Yesterday, Leslie’s was out of test disks, so I used Insta-TEST PRO 600 Plus test strips in the meantime.

For reference, Leslie’s tested my water on 8/21 and got:

FC: 1.3

TCL: 1.6

ALK: 117

pH: 7.9

TH: 175

CYA: 54

This is my first time interpreting these test strips, so I wanted to get some opinions on whether I’m reading them correctly. And yes, I know strips aren’t very accurate, so don’t attack me lol.

I also have a TF-Pro test kit. I tried testing the chlorine with that, but the 10 mL water sample wouldn’t turn pink after adding the powder. I’m assuming that’s what happens when FC is at or near 0? I didn’t have time to run the rest of the TF-Pro tests before work, which is why I used the strips.

Based on the strips, I’m reading:

FC: 0

TCL: 0

ALK: somewhere between 180–240

pH: around 8.4

TH: somewhere between 250–450

CYA: less than 40

Does that seem about right?

The part that surprised me is how much the chlorine appears to have dropped since 8/21. I’ve been brushing the pool a lot because of the algae-looking spots I had all over the pool. Could brushing/disturbing that algae cause the FC and TCL to get consumed that quickly?

I’m planning to run the full TF-Pro tests when I have time, but I’m curious whether I’m interpreting what I have correctly.

Just got the house and the clamp on the filter looks like it's about to break. I think they poorly tack welded it back together. I am trying to find a replacement but it's discontinued. Any idea of a cross reference part or another clamp that would work? From what I can find, the part number is "Pac Fab Mytilus FMY band assembly 17-110-1470".

Also, side note.. What's that white canister to the left of the filter?

Looking for ideas on how to lay out this long, narrow living room. The dining room is around the corner, so this space is strictly living room.

Furniture I need to fit:

88" dual-reclining leather couch

Two La-Z-Boys, approx. 44"W x 41"D

TV stand, 56.5"W x 21"D

I'd like to keep good walking paths between the front door and the rest of the house. I'm open to putting the TV stand in front of the window or elsewhere and adding furniture/decor to better use the extra space.

Photos are wide-angle, so keep in mind the 22'6" x 10'9" actual dimensions rather than judging scale from the pictures. Also, the couch in the photos is sold and not the one being used. Any layout ideas?

Just closed on the house last week. Water was clear when we made the offer. I think the owner or listing agent threw a bunch of tabs in the week we closed and now it's super cloudy. I bought a TF-pro kit and just tested the water today. I think I did everything right lol

Here are the results:

Fc = 2

Cc = 1

Cl = 2

Br = 4

Ph = 8.2 (or greater)

Cya < 30 (filled view tube to the top and could still see the black dot)

Ta = 30

Ch = 225

No salt generator and temp unknown but located in central FL.

I think the pool is approximately 15000-16000 gallons.

After doing homework and Ai... Came up with this...

Raise TA: Add \~5 lb baking soda to bring TA from \~30 toward 50–60 ppm.

Lower pH: After retesting, add muriatic acid as needed to target \~7.4–7.5.

Raise CYA cautiously: Target \~30–40 ppm. Since current CYA is somewhere below 30, add stabilizer incrementally rather than assuming CYA is zero.

Chlorinate/clear water: Once pH is corrected and CYA is known, raise FC to the appropriate cleanup/shock level (approximately 12 ppm if CYA = 30) using liquid chlorine and maintain that level until the water is clear, CC ≤0.5 and overnight FC loss ≤1 ppm.

Thoughts, opinions and suggestions are welcome.
