Am I the only one using Ibis Paint X instead of Photoshop?
I’ve been doing graphic design for a little over 4 years now
When I first got into it, I was in the middle of moving to another country, so all I had with me was my phone. Out of boredom I downloaded the first drawing app I found, Ibis Paint X. I messed around with it for about a week, drew some random stuff, posted it on IG, and didn’t think much of it.
Not long after that, someone DM’d me asking if I could make a cover art for their song. I had no idea what the market was like back then, so I charged $10
Funny enough, they ended up sending me $100 instead. I was absolutely blown away.
From there I started getting more and more clients, met other designers, and realized literally everyone around me was using Photoshop.
And honestly.. I get why. Photoshop is probably the better tool for the kind of work I do.
So why am I still using Ibis?
- I’m honestly just too lazy to switch.
- Once you’re constantly busy with client work, it’s really hard to relearn your entire workflow.
I actually tried making a cover in PS once. It took me way longer because I kept searching for basic tools that I could find in Ibis in like 3 seconds. It was frustrating as hell. And to make it even worse, the final result looked worse than what I would’ve made in Ibis.
At this point I’ve been using Ibis for years, so it just feels natural to me.
I’m curious if there’s anyone else here who actually uses Ibis Paint X for graphic design instead of Photoshop. I’d love to hear your experience because sometimes it feels like I’m the only one.

Made this about a year ago. I was cleaning up my computer recently, found it, and thought I’d share it here.

Is cover art for music artists actually a sustainable niche?
I’ve been designing cover art for a little over four years now. I started by working with artists in my home country (Ukraine), and after a couple of years I slowly expanded into the international market.
Since then, I’ve worked with a lot of artists—not just on cover art, but also on music video title cards, stage visuals, posters, promo graphics, and other visual content.
One thing I’ve noticed is that everyone seems to have a completely different experience in this niche. Some designers say it’s one of the best industries to work in, while others struggle to find clients or deal with constant low-budget requests.
So I’m curious:
- Where do most of your clients come from?
- What’s your average project price?
- Do you work mostly with independent artists or labels?
- Has this niche been worth it for you financially?
I’d genuinely love to hear other people’s experiences.
