Weekend Project- Rear Bed Platform
Started building a simple rear sleeping platform for my 2023 Land Rover Defender 110 and wanted to share the process so far.
The goal was to make something:
- Cheap
- Simple
- Removable
- Strong enough to sleep on comfortably
- Still usable for road trips/camping without permanently modifying the vehicle
I went with a super basic DIY setup using:
- Project panels
- Black pipe legs/flanges
- Indoor/Outdoor Carpet
- Basic hardware from Lowe’s.
The platform spans from the cargo area up to the folded rear seats and ended up fitting a sleeping pad perfectly. I kept the height low enough to still have decent headroom while leaving storage space underneath for camping stuff.
Overall though, for a first version, I’m pretty happy with it. Cost me a fraction of the prebuilt systems and gave me exactly the dimensions I wanted.
Curious what other Defender owners are running for sleeping/storage setups. Would love to see other DIY builds or ideas for improvements.
