Going to be in Dharamshala in the first week of June and super excited!

I’m looking to try authentic Himachali food, but I’m vegan, so no dairy, ghee, or anything animal-based. I know a lot of local dishes use ghee/curd, so I wanted to ask:

Are there any traditional Himachali dishes that are naturally vegan (or can easily be made vegan without losing authenticity)?

Any specific dishes, local spots, or cafés in/around Dharamshala/McLeodganj that you’d recommend?

Would love to try regional food rather than just sticking to generic options.

Thanks in advance.

Hey folks,

I’m a Java backend developer with approx 5 years of experience, currently earning around 16 LPA. On paper, things look fine, but internally I feel completely stuck and honestly a bit anxious about where I’m headed.

I’ve somehow made it this far without seriously grinding DSA or system design. Most of my growth has been on-the-job, and now it feels like I hit a ceiling. I see others around me switching jobs, preparing seriously, and I just… can’t seem to get myself to start.

Main concerns:

0 consistency with DSA or system design prep

No real motivation/discipline to study after work

Constant fear of layoffs / being exposed as underprepared

Feeling like I got here mostly through luck rather than skill

Don’t know how to restart or even what to focus on first

I’m not completely clueless technically . I do my job well, understand backend systems, APIs, debugging, etc. But when I think about interviews or the market, I feel very underprepared.

What I’m struggling with most is starting. Every time I think “I should begin DSA/system design,” I either procrastinate or feel overwhelmed and drop it.

Would really appreciate advice from people who’ve been in a similar situation:

How did you get out of this “stuck” phase?

How do you build consistency when motivation is low?

What should I realistically focus on first given my experience level?

Is it too late to start DSA/system design seriously at 5 YOE?

Any practical, low-overwhelm way to begin?

Even small actionable steps or mindset shifts would help.

Thanks in advance

Hi everyone,

I’m visiting India for work and have about 5 days free, so I’m thinking of heading to Himachal Pradesh with my parents (they’re a bit older, so I’m trying to keep things comfortable and not too adventurous).

Right now, I’m considering Dharamshala instead of Manali because I’ve read that Manali is quite commercialized and crowded. Dharamshala seems a bit more relaxed / less touristy, but still accessible. Would you say that’s a good choice for a short, easy trip with family?

My main concern is the weather in the first week of June. I’m seeing very mixed information online, some say it’s a good time, others mention heavy rains / early monsoon.

Is there a real risk of heavy rain or landslides in early June?

Or is that more of a mid/late June onwards thing?

Also, how are the road conditions from Chandigarh to Dharamshala? We’re planning to take a taxi.

Is it a safe / comfortable drive for older parents?

Another question. we’re vegan (no dairy/eggs as well).

Is it easy to find vegan food in Dharamshala / McLeod Ganj? Which local dishes are authentically vegan ?

Lastly, would love some suggestions for places to stay:

clean, comfortable, family-friendly

not super expensive resorts, more like mid-range hotels or cozy homestays

Appreciate any advice . especially from people who’ve been there recently!
