Is it really this hard to find people in Sri Lanka who genuinely want to make cinema?

I'm not talking about people who just want to make a few reels or shoot videos as a hobby.

I'm talking about people who genuinely love cinema as an art form, people who get excited about storytelling, visual language, character driven films, meaningful performances, and creating something that feels honest and original.

I've been trying to make short films, but one of my biggest struggles isn't the camera or the budget it's finding people who share that same passion. In my area, I honestly haven't found anyone who's as committed to filmmaking as I am.

Maybe this is just my experience, but I often come across films that focus mainly on delivering a message, recreating commercial cinema, or following familiar trends. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, it just isn't the kind of cinema I'm passionate about.

I'm looking for people who want to explore cinema as an art form. Films where emotions, characters, atmosphere, silence, visuals, and storytelling matter just as much as the plot. The kind of films that stay with you long after they're over.

I'm Tamil, but language doesn't matter to me. Whether you're Tamil, Sinhala, Muslim, or Burgher, if you're serious about filmmaking and want to create something honest and artistic together, I'd genuinely love to connect.

Does anyone else feel the same way? Have you found your filmmaking circle in Sri Lanka, or are you also searching for people on the same wavelength?

I'd love to hear your experiences.
