How to deal with unsolicited comments about my weight loss since my diagnosis and starting medication?

I,(31F), was diagnosed with ADHD last July after a long and frustrating years of batting with my metal health and trying to feel “normal”. My mom, brother and some others in my family were medicated for it and said it was life changing. I tried therapy which was fine but didn’t seem to really help any of the symptoms I was experiencing. I felt burnt out from the second I woke up, never able to focus or finish any task, I was irritable and impatient, everything I did felt like a million pounds to get the motivation to do. It got to the point where I would stay up so late so the next day of tasks wouldn’t come as fast. I was never present, just consumed by thoughts and it was affecting me every single day and getting worse, I would do something and guilt myself all day because I couldn’t get away from my brain. I truly felt like a prisoner to myself. Things weren’t bringing me joy anymore, I had no motivation. I kept attributing my symptoms back to “this must be normal because i’m a mom now, and i’m overwhelmed, it’ll pass”. Parenting was becoming so hard and I felt like my kids and my husband wasn’t getting the version of me they deserved. I finally broke down and went to see a psychiatrist who tested me for ADHD and started me on 10mg XR Adderall, I was not on any medication to begin with so I was hesitant but needed to try something.

Fast forward a year on the medication - and it’s been the most rewarding and eye opening year of my life. I’ve picked up so many hobbies I enjoy, I feel like myself, I’m happy and so much more patient. I’m focused, I enjoy tidying my home and doing things with my family and have the patience to do so along with the joy while doing it. I’m fully present in the moment thinking about what I’m doing, instead of all the background noise.

It has changed my life for the better and I get emotional when I think about how long I was living in this state and not enjoying life. since being on the medication, I’ve lost almost 40 pounds. It was unintentional, and I wasn’t unhappy with my weight before. I’ve gravitated toward healthy foods accidentally, and don’t boredom eat. I’ve never been a big portion person so my portions have always been small but I never lost my appetite since starting the meds, I still eat, just less and my job is very active, i’m on my feet all day long. My brain is tamed now and my mental health is thriving. I’ve brought this up to my doctor because at one point I was considering getting off the meds worried and insecure about the weight loss but she insisted this is very common for people who treat their mental health, and losing weight due to a happier brain is a result. eventually I would like to only take it as needed but I feel the best I ever have physically and mentally and I keep getting comments regarding my weight loss almost all the time and it makes me so insecure. I’m just living life. it’s gotten to the point where I am so insecure and tired of hearing negative or concerned comments, sometimes even positive but anytime I see someone haven’t seen in awhile, i’m worried they’re going to say something. It’s become such a worry of mine and typically it’s something along the lines of “are you losing more weight?” or “why do you look so thin, are you okay? how much weight have you lost?”. i’m torn because i’m trying so hard to eat more and keep weight ON. it’s a struggle for me and im working at it to be the healthiest I can, along with weighing to make sure im maintaining. Help 😔
