Speedmaster Service with Mandatory Hand Replacement?

I sent my Speedmaster in for service with Omega for the first time (~8 years). After a few weeks I get notified, asking if I want to proceed because there is a mandatory hand replacement to ensure the lume doesn’t fall into the movement.

Is this normal? My hands and lume were completely fine. If it’s mandatory with services, then why isn’t it listed on their service description website with the correct price on their website? The extra price isn’t an issue, but it’s the principle of the matter. I’d really prefer to keep good parts in the watch to maintain originality.

Birth-year Series 70 Colt’s Government

I came across this Colt Series 70 on GB that was made in my birthyear and had mods that I likely would have done, so I had to get it. The CAG/Delta vibe it had didn’t hurt.

It was fitted with Bomar sights, Delta hammer, beavertail grip safety, magwell spring housing, Wilson or Kings extended mag release, Wilson or Kings safety, Wilson or Kings extended slide stop, full length guide rod, and the barrel had two dots welded on for tighter fit. The trigger has a groove cut into it, seemingly for a match trigger pad, but I’m not sure.

My receiving FFL lost the slide stop (long story) and safety contact points looked like a hack job, so I replaced both with as close as I could find the originals while fitting my preferences. I also ditched the full length guide rod for a USGI one piece, put Alchemy grip panels on, and fitted a Kart NM barrel with Harrison bushing and spring plug.

Finally, I polished a bunch of the internals. the slide has chatter marks like nobody’s business and definitely looked like it was was made on a Friday. And I tuned the trigger spring for a 4-4.5 lb pull and an easy disconnector. Now she feels pretty buttery. Not perfect, but nice.

This was my first time tuning a 1911 and fitting a 1911 barrel, and I’m pretty happy with the outcome. tight lockup with no barrel movement, but it doesn’t hang up when locking either.

Oh, and I threw in my birth-year/birth-month Hamilton GG-W-113 field watch for good measure.

Hi all. I'm considering applying to a req, but I was curious about the culture in the Massachusetts offices. In particular, I'm curious about the ISR group in Lexington. But I would also be interested to hear any feedback about the Maritime group in Quincy.

Thanks in advance.

Also, feel free to PM me if you'd rather share there.
