Far Out Magazine gatekeeping Fontaines D.C. and telling us how Irish culture is "misunderstood" by a writer who isn't even Irish.
I just saw this article on my feed (link below) and what a fucking crock of horseshit.
The writer is a British journalist writing for a UK publication, where she openly admits she knows next to nothing about Ireland, yet spends the whole piece complaining that *other* British fans don't know enough about Ireland.
By her own admission, she knows "relatively little" about her own Irish ancestry, she admits she is "not entirely sure what \[she\] is annoyed about, yet, she still positions herself as the arbiter of who is consuming Irish music the "right" or "wrong" way.
It’s a textbook example of an outsider gatekeeping a culture she doesn't actually belong to. Instead of doing the actual work to educate herself on the history she claims people are missing, she’s used her platform to over-intellectualise her own vague discomfort with trendy indie music fans.
**TL;DR:** "I'm British, I know fuck all about Ireland, and I'm mad that other British people also know fuck all about Ireland. Please stop listening to Fontaines D.C. until you've read a history book, because it makes me feel guilty."
Seriously. What in the actual fuck do these muppets get paid for?
First Original Pressing Vinyl
Was sorting through some old vinyl when I came across these gems.. I bought them all on release back in the day and checked the etchings and confirmed they are all first press releases.
The Loveless vinyl was mastered in Townhouse so it's worth a substantial amount as the audio quality is far better than subsequent releases.
Anyhow.. brought back a lot of memories. Just thought I'd share.
Whatever happened to the disabled boy who won the Golden Penis Award last summer?
Emergency Broadcast from the Future.
I come from the future. I am in the year 2026. It is July 26th. It is 6pm.
It happened. The final whistle blew. Mayo have won the All-Ireland final.
The sky outside the window has turned a terrifying shade of purple. The ancient prophecy is fulfilled. The curse of 1951 is broken, and reality itself is beginning to unravel at the seams.
Here is what is currently happening across the country, based on what I can piece together from RTÉ emergency broadcasts:
The entire population of Mayo has detached from the earth. They are currently floating three feet in the air, weeping tears of pure red and green.
Space and time have warped. If you try to drive into Westport right now, you end up driving out of your own wardrobe.
Reports are coming in from Galway where one local man stated "I just looked out the window and saw a sheep flying backwards while singing "The Green and Red of Mayo." I think the simulation is crashing".
Panic has gripped Cavan. Local shops report customers trying to pay for bread with pre-war currency and handfuls of gravel.
Culchies across Ireland are storming the counters of Supermacs in a blind panic, desperately trading their family livestock for the last remaining portions of garlic cheese chips and Snack Boxes before the societal collapse is complete.
Stay safe, people. Check on your neighbours. Stay away from anyone wearing a flat cap, eating a hangsangwich or drinking a pint of milk.
God bless Ireland, because the old world is gone.
THE LAND IS MELTING. THE GOVERNMENT IS ASLEEP. IT IS 21 DEGREES.
I am writing this from inside my fridge.
The country is in absolute ruins.
The tarmac is soft.
The birds have stopped singing because their beaks have fused together.
Yet, Harris and his cronies do absolutely nothing. Nada. Zip. Fuck all. Zero.
Here is my emergency manifesto to save the nation before we all evaporate:
- Deploy the Defence Forces immediately
Reddit tells me it is physically too hot to walk dogs. Anyone ignoring this is a war criminal. We need the army on every street corner. If they spot a citizen walking a Golden Retriever, they must shoot the person on sight.
No trials. No questions.
The footpath is literally magma.
- Mandatory A-Rated housing downgrades
These hyper-insulated green energy prisons are killing us. My BER A1-rated semi-detached house has reached internal temperatures comparable to the surface of the sun.
The government needs to issue immediate emergency grants to help us smash our triple-glazed windows and install thin, single-pane glass from 1974.
Let the draft back in, Eamon Ryan.
- Nationalize the Cornetto supply
Flake 99s are retailing at €4.50.
This is daylight robbery.
The state must seize all ice cream vans. Ice cream distribution must be managed by the HSE. If you do not have a medical exemption for brain freeze, you get one Calippo per day.
- Cancel the sun
The Dáil needs to pass emergency legislation to legally declare daytime as nighttime until September. We will work, live, and drink cans of Dutch Gold strictly under the cover of darkness.
Wake up, Ireland. We are being boiled alive by our own inaction.
Kevin Doyle just dropped the C-bomb live on RTE2
Yup. He said cunt.
He also said that - if Messi was a horse at a horse market - nobody would want to buy him.
Classic stuff 😁
AI Music. Creative play for the digital age.
I've been scrolling through the sub listening to songs and I don't see AI as the threat many think it is because AI music isn't about replacing musicians - it is literally just playing dress-up with a virtual artist avatar.
Think about it like an RPG or a world-building game. When you use AI tools, you aren't just hitting a button.. you are acting as the creative director, stylist, and producer of your own fictional pop star or underground indie icon.
You get to hand-pick the lyrics, curate the aesthetic, blend weird genres together, and build a tiny, perfect sonic universe where you are the main character.
Yes, it is exactly like The Sims for wannabe rockstars.
Instead of customizing a Sim's clothes, hair, and traits, you are customizing a musician's sonic DNA, genre, and lyrical personality.
You get to play God with a band's sound without ever needing to learn how to play an actual instrument and the final product is a song that perfectly matches your exact mood.
It is creative play for the digital age.

Suno turned me into Van Gogh
I have stared into the digital void for six hours. 1,200 credits are gone, dissolved into a sea of "hallu-metal" and misplaced saxophone solos.
I finally understand Vincent van Gogh.
He didn't cut his ear off because of psychiatric distress. He did it because he spent an entire night trying to generate a 1980s Dark Synthwave track with "haunting, ethereal female vocals," but the AI kept giving him a cheerful polka track with a confused male country singer.
He sliced that lobe right off just so he wouldn't have to hear another corrupted, robotic artifact clipping at 14kHz.
Look at my canvas. Look at the masterpiece I am trying to paint:
Prompt: [Dark Synthwave, Cyberpunk, 110 BPM, haunting ethereal female vocals, heavy bass, cinematic progression]
Suno's Interpretation (Attempt #14): A joyful, acoustic ukulele cover of a song that sounds vaguely like a corporate training video, featuring a singer who sounds like he is drowning in autotune
.Suno's Interpretation (Attempt #42): The vibe is perfect. The bass drops. The synth swells. I weep tears of pure joy. This is it.
This is art.
Then, at the 1-minute mark, the vocals turn into a terrifying demonic screech, the BPM jumps to 300, and the song abruptly ends with the sound of a shattering glass window.
My wife thinks I’ve lost my mind because she heard me scream, "Why won't you just fade out naturally?!" at my monitor at 3:00 AM.
You call me a "lazy AI prompter." You think I just press a button. You don't know the sacrifice. You don't know the pain of watching your last 10 credits yield a track that is literally 4 minutes of dead silence followed by a single, loud burp.
If anyone needs me, I’ll be in my room, staring at a blank text box, holding a pair of scissors, wondering if a [Lo-fi Chill Hop] track is worth my left ear.
