Just wondering, what could explain a lack of explore rate on a random Tuesday and Wednesday night?

Not complaining, but throughout the month the explore rate is available except for the upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday night. As far as I know it’s not a holiday and there’s no special event. Just curious if anyone has any theory as to why this could be?

What’s your opinion on living in spottiswoode?

Convenient? Boring? Do you find it central enough or kinda that awkward distance where it’s not too central but not far either

I’m new to Singapore from the US looking to rent near Chinatown and tanjong pagar.

I’ve been looking at 2BR 1 Bath on high floors with great views for about 4800$. I tried to verify this with URA but all it does is make me a bit more confused since the ranges are quite big and for example, so condos like eon shenton has 1 BR listed on Propertyguru but not on URA.

Also, how negotiable are rent prices if signing for 2 years? I understand the norm is either 1 or 2 years but can 2 years help negotiate down the price?

I’ve been looking mostly at eon shenton and the Clift and was wondering what’s fair for those condos if anyone has an idea. Is the information on property guru accurate when it says”this unit is 5% cheaper than than the median rental prices”

As an ABT (American Born Taiwanese), does anyone else feel conflicted about this sub?

I was born and raised abroad. Culturally, I’m western. My upbringing is probably a lot closer to foreigners but I’m ethically Taiwanese so I understand where a lot of their perspectives come from.

There are things that are cultural shocks to me as well, but sometimes, I can also see how ridiculous a lot of foreigners are. For example, English teaching is often seen as a cool opportunity and I understand why people come here for that experience. But I also think it’s only very evident to ABTs that it’s a privileged position. The barrier to entry is extremely low, it pays well land it's a job that requires no language sklls. If you are an immigrant to the US, you'd know that people can coast in Taiwan as a foreigner easily, but immigrating to western countries is way harder than just teaching a language. By all means it’s hella privileged.

Taiwan can be closeminded in many ways. Growing I also viewed Western countries as progressive and modern, which is partly why many Taiwanese want to move abroad. Like it was always seen as privilege to immigrate to the US. Like if Taiwan wasn’t a hyper competitive place with people trying to get the edge by learning English, then you wouldn’t have a job teaching English and no ability to live here unless you put in real work by going to school here. It’s always been weird for me to see people coming from Europe to live here, just to complain about work life balance, like yes that’s the reason why western counties were seen as the end goal for many people.

Anyways I mention English teaching because like 90% of westerners seem to be doing that, based off this subreddit and some meetups I went to.

Anyways any other ABT feel this way? I’m on mobile so I’m kinda writing all over the place lol hopefully I can hear more from other ABTs
