Batocera ROMs on a NAS over NFS
I wanted to add my nas storage to my batocera by symlinking to the nas folders. This is a write up for anyone else who thinks this would be useful for them.

First of all this is only necessary if you are using non-cachy and valve protons such as ge.
Found out that proton plus supports commands so I thought it would be cool if I could make yay update my proton versions. This means that if you've set global compatibility or a game's compatibility to a 'latest' version in steam updating your system will update the proton you are using.
fish
funcsave yayfishfunction yay --wraps yay
command yay $argv
and if test (count $argv) -eq 0; or string match -qr -- '^-S(yy?)?u' $argv[1]
protonplus update all
end
end
funcsave yay

To enable FSR 4.1 gloabally I creacted an environment file:
mkdir -p ~/.config/environment.d
cat > ~/.config/environment.d/fsr4.conf <<'EOF'
PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1
DXIL_SPIRV_CONFIG=wmma_rdna3_workaround
EOF
I was using the following setup:
Bazzite Stable
AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX
AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT
32Gb DDR5 5200 MHz dual-channel
Benchmarks for Forza Horizon 6:
FSR 4.1
4k 36 Ultra Performance 33 Balanced
1440p 57 Ultra Performance 53 Balanced
1080p 72 Ultra Performance 69 Balanced
FSR 3.1.5
4k 68 Ultra Performance 56 Balanced
1440p 85 Ultra Performance 76 Balanced
1080p 92 Ultra Performance 86 Balanced
Personally I thought 1440p FSR 4.1 Ultra Performance looked better than 4k FSR 3.1.5 Balanced.
This a huge wast of time..... u/vqt907 is right.
Claude wasted my whole afternoon literally telling that wmma_rdna3_workaround forced INT8 when it was the opposite.
Sorry.

I tried the current 4.0 version and the performance hit was extreme. Looking forward to testing this.

Self-hosting V14 (build 364) on a Debian VM in Bangkok, AIS fibre. For weeks now Browse Packages and Update All just die with "TypeError: terminated" after about 30 seconds. Every single time.
The weird part is everything else works fine. License check is fine, the version checker happily tells me 14.364 is out, I can paste a manifest URL into Install Module and it installs no problem, and I just pulled the 141MB update zip from r2.foundryvtt.com at full speed. It's literally just the package catalog call that dies.
I went down a bit of a rabbit hole with mtr and curl timings. Short version: Bangkok to their server in Oregon is ~210ms RTT with some genuine packet loss on the trans-Pacific hop, and I think the catalog response is just too big to make it through before whatever timeout Foundry has set (~20-30s) kills it. Small requests sneak through fine, the big one doesn't. Notably their release downloads come off Cloudflare R2 which has edges out here, which is presumably why a 141MB zip works while a few MB of JSON doesn't.
If I bring up a WireGuard tunnel to a US exit, Browse Packages works instantly. Which to me rules out my ISP being broken, since the tunnel goes over the exact same ISP.
Contacted support, they were friendly but basically said it's probably backbone-level stuff outside their control, mentioned they'd seen similar regional clusters before (rural Italy apparently), and suggested trying again in a week. Fair enough from their side I guess, but it's been like this for weeks and the VPN test makes me fairly confident it's not going to fix itself.
So:
This is for people who want to take control of their voice input. In my case I run it through Extended OpenAI Conversation using a self hosted gpt-oss:20b model. The prompt and functions are heavily tweaked so it works smoothly with all the voice functions I want.
https://www.seeedstudio.com/ReSpeaker-XVF3800-With-Case-XIAO-ESP32S3-p-6628.html
It is definitely significantly more sensitive than the Home Assistant Voice Preview Addition. The 5m promise is valid.
However there is a major gotcha. It does not contain a speaker, you can either add an internal speaker such as AIYIMA 40mm 4ohm and 3D print a case that accepts it ( https://www.printables.com/model/1467255-seeedstudio-respeaker-xvf3800-case )
Or as I have ended up doing add some cheap powered speakers that plug into the 3.5mm audio jack. https://shopee.co.th/%F0%9F%91%8D%E0%B8%A5%E0%B8%B3%E0%B9%82%E0%B8%9E%E0%B8%87%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%B8%E0%B8%94%E0%B8%84%E0%B8%A5%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%B4%E0%B8%84%F0%9F%91%8D-%E0%B8%A5%E0%B8%B3%E0%B9%82%E0%B8%9E%E0%B8%87%E0%B8%84%E0%B8%AD%E0%B8%A1%E0%B8%9E%E0%B8%B4%E0%B8%A7%E0%B9%80%E0%B8%95%E0%B8%AD%E0%B8%A3%E0%B9%8C-%E0%B8%A5%E0%B8%B3%E0%B9%82%E0%B8%9E%E0%B8%87USB-%E0%B9%80%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%B5%E0%B8%A2%E0%B8%87%E0%B8%94%E0%B8%B5-%E0%B9%80%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%B5%E0%B8%A2%E0%B8%87%E0%B8%94%E0%B8%B1%E0%B8%87-Mini-Digital-Speaker-%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%B5%E0%B8%9F%E0%B9%89%E0%B8%B2Computer-Speakers-USB-Speakers-i.390587793.28457700705
Despite the speaker inconvenience I think the enhanced performance is worth it.
I just tried the FSR 4 work around in the latest cachy OS proton and my framerate in Forza Horizon 6 at 4k dropped from 70FPS for FSR 3.15 to 36FPS for FSR 4.03
Edit: This is with a 7600M XT GPU which is just a bit more powerful than the one in the steam machine, both trials were at ultra performance.
Just to report that I tried this on a mini PC with a 7600M XT GPU on Bazzite and it had no problems hitting more than 60 FPS at 1080p, medium settings and FSR 3.
Contacted support and they kept promising to provide me with a valid tracking number then closing my dispute without giving me any information and telling me that I have to contact the courier company. Of course the courier company cannot help me without a tracking number. Eventually a senior agent admits that they cannot get the local courier tracking number after 4 previous conversations that promised me they would email me the tracking number.
Such an absolute shit show. They demand that you contact the local courier company but cannot give you the necessary information.
I wrote an automation in home assistant ( with the help of AI ) that detects the temperatures of my drives and turns on the room's AC when the drives get too hot.
This is integrated into my current setup based on prescence sensing that usually turn off the ac if no one is home and turns on the ac when people come back.
