Just moved back to Oregon

I've never hiked nor summited a mountain until I moved back.

I hiked the mirror lake trail on Mount Hood to Tom, Dick, And Harry mountain.

Obviously compared to the stuff I've seen in this sub, that's a leisurely walk.

What I want to know is how to get started? I want to get to the top of hood someday. It seems very easy to get in over ones head, and I'd rather not let pride and ego get me killed or injured.

I am not wealthy though, the classes seem to be a grand, not including gear.

Is this just something I should put out of my head?

I have a 2014 ford focus titanium. Lately it's been shuddering and complaining. Transmission light came on today, odb had no error codes. Cleared the light, then it pops up again and says Transmission overheating and to wait 5 minutes. Which does nothing.

I need to drive 2000 miles just 16 days from now. Am I fucked?

Odb had no errors and still reports no errors. I cannot shift into sport at all. It really hates shifting up, no issues down. I tried the "reset" of turning on the car but not the engine and holding down the gas pedal for 30 seconds. It worked for a little while.

I can't disconnect the battery, try as I might. The bolts are on too tight, and my wrenches can't get into that space very well.

I'm having it towed to a ford dealer in hopes thst they can replace the tcm module, but from what I understand it is on a hideous backorder.

Any thoughts? Should I just scrap it for parts and take that chump change to get a different car?
