Brass tapered spike/plug with a domed cap with lead, visible threaded screw, and arched loop on top, about 20 cm long, used to hold a rubber ring.

Found this solid brass “thing” in my late grandfathers workshop.

The top has some lead-like substance that is quite stiff but can be bend. Looks glued to the brass for most part though.

The rubber ring that sits between the top and the botten has fallen apart.

There are no identifying marks, however there are vertical marks and scratches visible that might give some information.

I also got a manual water pump made from copper (last 3 pictures). It’s really old, like 150 years or so at least and was used as the main water source in the farmhouse of an uncle of my great grandfather. It might be related to that, but it also might have nothing to do with it.

Budget beginner setup: girlfriend doesn’t want a Breville. Now what? [€1000,- ish max]

Good morning!

So let me start off by asking you not to flame me haha.

I’ve done a lot of research and decided we (my gf and I) should go for a breville. Good quality, not too expensive, beginner friendly. However, my girlfriend finds it to be hideous.

We agreed that the “Café Leon Dore / La Marzocco Linea Micra” looks very nice but would be an absolutely idiotic thing to splurge on, especially as a first espresso machine and with student debt to pay off.

Based on the pictures I provided, what could you recommend us? Are there any easy ways to have the breville look different and more in tune with our kitchen and living. Are there other similair machines with a different look. Or do you have suggestions or tips and tricks for me to take my Bialetti coffee to the next level?

Thanks!!
