For context on this clip: This is the ending of a legendary Malayalam-language psychological drama called Thaniyavarthanam.

The man in the video is Balan (played by Mammootty), a perfectly sane school teacher. He belongs to a traditional family with a history of mental illness. Because of a simple misunderstanding and deep-rooted village superstitions, his community and family convince themselves that he is the "next madman." They isolate him, chain him up, and completely break his spirit until he's an empty shell.

Seeing her son brutally tortured by society, his heartbroken mother decides the only way to truly free him from this living hell is to mix poison into his rice.
