Guide: Don’t get scammed anymore

Not all jadeite is the same. Imperial Jade is the premium stuff—deep green, highly translucent, and usually the most valuable. Ice Jade has that clean, glass-like look that many collectors love. Glutinous Jade is a nice middle ground with softer color and decent translucency. Bean Jade is more traditional, with richer green tones and a classic appearance. White Jade offers a clean and refreshing look with subtle green accents, while Lavender Jade stands out with its unique purple color and elegant vibe. At the end of the day, color, transparency, texture, and craftsmanship all play a big role in determining quality and value.

Jade Grades quick guide

Jade comes in different grades of transparency. Here‘s how they go, from least to most see-through:

Bean —The coarsest. Zero transparency. Put your hand behind it and you see nothing.

Glutinous —Finer texture, but still opaque. No hand visibility.

Fine glutinous —A bit more refined. Still not transparent.

Glutinous translucent —This is where it starts getting interesting. Brighter, cleaner, and you can just barely make out your hand.

Glutinous ice —More transparent than the above. Starting to look really nice.

Ice —Like frozen water. Almost fully transparent. You can see the shape of your hand clearly.

High ice —Right between ice and glass. Very high clarity.

Glass —Crystal clear, like actual glass. You can see your fingers through it no problem.

The higher you go, the rarer and more expensive it gets. Glass variety is the top tier —and the price tag reflects it.

Ladies, stop blindly buying those full green jade bangles.

They might look super green and see-through right now. Two years later? The difference is depressing.

When you first buy a resin-filled bangle:Bright even green, looks expensive, glossy and watery. Shine a UV light on it and it glows like crazy. But the structure has already been chemically damaged.

After two years of wear:The color goes dull grayish green. The surface gets rougher, less translucent. UV glow fades too. And there's always the question of what chemicals are still in there —not something you want against your skin every day.

People say "it looks fine now, who cares." But the shine and color don't last, and honestly the health angle bothers me more than most people admit.

Quick test: UV flashlight. Bright glow? That's resin. Uneven or weak glow? Still don't trust it.

Once jade is acid-washed or resin-filled, it's damaged for good. It might sit pretty in a drawer for a while, but it’s not going to hold its value and lord knows what's leaching out of that resin over time.

If you want something you can actually pass down, skip the cheap stuff and buy natural Grade A. Your wrist —and your skin —will thank you.
