Imaginary Perfect Upstate Food Day

Was talking with a friend today about what upstate does best food-wise.

We have plenty of spots doing NY style pizza, bagels, New England seafood, but we got to thinking about the stuff that is genuinely ours or that we just do really well and you don’t see much anywhere else.

What does your perfect upstate NY food day look like?

Here’s mine:

Breakfast - local diner, big pancakes and whatever the homemade special is

Lunch - White Eagle hot dog and Saratoga chips

Snack - fried dough with marinara and powdered cheese

Dinner - Brooks BBQ chicken dinner

Dessert - Stewart’s ice cream or apple cider donuts

TLDR: What’s your perfect upstate NY food day using food that is uniquely ours or that we just do really well?

Best local finds/products

I started a thread about how bad I felt Market32 is yesterday and it got a lot of responses. One trend I noticed was that many in this group did not mind paying a little more for quality or local products when able.

While it’s clear much of this community shared my sentiment and frustration, perhaps we can use some of that energy to highlight the local spots and products that actually deserve more attention.

Some great ones came up already like Sanders Meat Market, Pearls Bagels, and an Indian grocery store I had never even heard of before.

Personally I really like Aria Kebab and feel like it is a hidden gem. They are always super welcoming and their kebabs are incredible. What are your favorite local spots or finds that you think are flying under the radar?

How far Market32/Price Chopper has fallen

Price chopper used to be family focused and affordable . Today I got there and they have 40 dollar flowers in a dollar tree vase, rotten potatoes, previously frozen muffins being put on display. Prices are going up everywhere, but you can’t cut quality and raise the price, expecting to stay in business. How the mighty have fallen.
