i genuinely think my baby hates me. he’s 6-weeks old now and i take care of him together with my helper. he screams murder when i carry him, but calms immediately when my helper takes over. i tried asking my helper to teach me how she carries him and to observe how i do it- and while she said my way of carrying is accurate, he just doesn’t stop crying with me.

i feel so useless and rejected as a mother, i can’t even help my child feel better :(

Hi all, looking for some advice or shared experiences!

My 6-week-old was recently diagnosed with reflux. Following our doctor’s recommendation, we switched his formula to a mix (50/50) of regular formula and an anti-reflux (AR) formula about a week ago.

Before this, he was consistently drinking around 100–110ml per feed. But over the past couple of days, his intake has become quite inconsistent — sometimes dropping to ~60ml, though occasionally he’ll still take 90–100ml.

We’ve also noticed that:

- He often falls asleep mid-feed

- Sometimes he pulls away seeming frustrated, but still tries to suck when we offer the bottle again

We initially thought it might be a flow issue, so we tried moving up teat sizes. The slightly faster flow didn’t seem to help much at first, but when we tried an even faster flow teat (meant for older babies), he actually seemed more alert and fed better.

That said, I’m a bit concerned about using a teat intended for older babies — not sure if that’s okay long-term, especially with reflux.

Has anyone experienced something similar with reflux babies and feeding changes?

Is inconsistent intake normal at this stage, or could it be related to teat flow, reflux discomfort, or something else?

Would really appreciate any insights or tips. Thank you!

My bub is 6-week old and has been on Fairprice Gold formula with Pigeon SS teat for newborns. Ever since he got diagnosed with reflux 1 week ago, we started him on Friso Gold AR formula with the Dr’s recommendation to mix 1/2 Fairprice Gold and 1/2 Friso Gold AR formula.

Bub has been drinking 100-110ML per feed until about 2 days ago, where we noticed a drastic drop to \~60ML on some feeds. Others he still managed \~90-100ML. We also saw that he would fall asleep during the feed; either that or he would get frustrated and pull away, while still trying to suckle when offered the teat.

Chat GPT suggested that this could be attributable to feeding inefficiency and recommended us to size up to Pigeon 1+M Size S teat. While we hoped this would work better for our bub, it seemed he was still extremely frustrated. \~10 mins into the feed with this new teat, he barely drank 10ML. And he was trying to suckle throughout the 10 mins.

My husband suggested for us to try Pigeon Size M teat (Y shape, for 3+M)— after we changed the teat midway through the feed it seemed our little bub was able to drink better, was also more alert. However I’m feeling abit unsettled still given that the teat is afterall meant for older children.

Wondering if this is a common issue, and if there are any other advices on how we can help our bub drink better? Thank you so much!!
