FSU gave me a second chance.

I grew up kinda spoiled with architects as parents. I hung around the wrong people and committed crimes for no reason. I was kicked out of FSU freshman year for armed robbery. I was facing ten years in prison. I got lucky that my parents were able to hire two lawyers. I was given five years house arrest. After I finish house arrest, I tried to get back into FSU. They said I needed to finish my AA at a community college.

I got straight A’s at TCC and finished my general education. When I applied for FSU again, I had to go before a review board. They asked questions about my crime. I was given one more chance. I graduated with a degree in sociology and psychology. I’ve been sober ever since. I a flourishing now. I am grateful for second chances.

Thanks for celebrating my mom. My dad was one of the first black men in the Skull and Bones Fraternity at Yale. He won’t talk about it.

He said he felt like the token black guy. There is some weird stuff in this picture. Both my parents met at Yale. He told me about crazy parties but that’s it. He seemed to get good connections from it after college. I wonder how the black men felt?
