New problem in Northern California….
I’m experiencing a routing issue on my Fidium fiber connection. The ControlD Free DNS ( see https://controld.com/free-dns ) Anycast IPs are unreachable from my Fidium WAN, but work normally when I tether through my mobile carrier.
These DNS servers were working normally until last night, and then became unreachable from my Fidium connection without any changes on my end.
Details:
Affected IPs: 76.76.2.11, 76.76.2.32, 76.76.10.32, etc.
DNS queries to these IPs time out (UDP 53 and TCP 443).
ICMP ping fails.
Traceroute reaches Cogent’s backbone and then stalls, never reaching ControlD’s Anycast node.
When I tether my laptop through my phone (different ISP), all ControlD DNS IPs respond normally.
This indicates a routing/peering issue between Fidium’s upstream and Cogent’s path to ControlD, not a LAN or router problem.
If someone from Northern California feels like verifying, please run “nslookup controld.com 76.76.2.0” or “tracert 76.76.2.0”. Again, this worked fine for years and started failing last night without any change on my side.
