A couple of days ago, I made a post asking everyone for AmourShipping analysis ideas, and I received a couple of interesting suggestions. One idea in particular stood out to me the most: the Snowball Scene Parallel. (This ideas was from u/CheederPizza)

I spent the past two days researching, analyzing, and writing about this connection, and I finally finished it!

This analysis focuses on the parallel between Ash and Serena’s first meaningful connection in XY006 after Ash’s defeat against Viola and the snowball scene in XY121. It explores how these moments reflect Ash’s emotional struggles, Serena’s understanding of him, and how their relationship develops throughout the series.

Rather than just looking at the scenes individually, I wanted to examine how they connect narratively and what they reveal about Ash and Serena’s bond, character growth, and the way they support each other.

I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts and feedback! Let me know what you think of the analysis.

So most of you guys probably know that I make a lot of AmourShipping analysis documentation, and I’ve been wanting to expand it with more deeper and insightful takes.

I’ve been wanting to write some deeper AmourShipping analysis posts, but I’m looking for more ideas beyond the usual topics.

Not just “cute moments” or obvious scenes, but more insightful or symbolic takes, like character development, themes, storytelling structure, emotional writing, etc.

For example things like:

• how Ash and Serena’s bond develops through subtext
• how their relationship reflects growth rather than romance
• or how certain scenes carry deeper meaning than they seem at first glance

So over the past few weeks, I've been working on a pretty large AmourShipping analysis document focused on one question:

If Ash and Serena ever reunite again, what would be the most believable way for the anime to do it?

Rather than trying to predict the future, I wanted to look at what the anime has actually given us and see what kinds of reunion scenarios naturally fit the story.

What doc goes through things like:

• The childhood meeting at Professor Oak's Summer Camp
• The snowball scene in XYZ
• The blue ribbon and what it symbolizes
• Serena's farewell in the XYZ finale
• The Journeys reunion in Episode 105
• How both Ash and Serena have grown since Kalos

From there, I looked at a few different reunion possibilities, including:

• A reunion at a major international event
• Serena traveling with Ash again
• A movie or special focused on them
• A timeskip reunion years later
• A final epilogue for Ash's story

Personally, after writing the whole thing, I think a movie/special or a travel companion return would be the strongest options. A movie gives the relationship room to breathe, while traveling together again would recreate the same conditions that allowed their bond to develop in XY.

What I found most interesting is that the XYZ ending never really felt like a goodbye to me. It felt more like a promise that both characters would continue growing and meet again someday. Then Journeys actually followed through on that promise, which makes me wonder if the writers intentionally left the door open for another reunion down the line.

I'm curious what everyone else thinks.

If Ash and Serena reunite again, what scenario would you want to see? And which one do you think is actually the most likely?

I wrote up an Amourshipping analysis focusing on themes, symbolism, and character writing across XY/XYZ and the series as a whole.

I didn’t really focus on specific events, more on how the relationship is shaped through the way the story is told.

Main ideas:

• They both help each other grow Ash and Serena end up influencing each other in different ways, especially when it comes to confidence, mindset, and emotional awareness.
• It’s a slow build on purpose Their dynamic doesn’t rely on one big defining moment — it’s built up gradually through consistent interactions over time.
• A lot of meaning is shown visually The series uses repeated objects, small details, and visual cues to quietly reinforce their connection.
• They follow similar growth patterns, just in different directions Even though they’re chasing different dreams, their journeys feel structurally similar — both go through struggle, learning, and improvement.
• The setting actually matters more than it seems The region they’re in plays a big role in shaping who they become, almost like a phase of personal transformation.
• It feels more like something evolving than something being “resolved” Their relationship is written in a way where it keeps developing over time instead of being wrapped up at any single point.

Dropping an updated version of the mirror character analysis. Here are the fixes:

What changed:

• Most of it is small stuff but it adds up. Some lines were still reading like statements of fact rather than interpretation, went through and softened those, the most obvious one being the Serena "naming her own mirror function" line which now makes clearer that it's one way to read the scene rather than something the text is explicitly doing.
• "Narrative fact" in Section 08 felt way too confident for a document that's supposed to stay interpretive the whole way through, that's now "observable narrative pattern."
• Added a small disclaimer to the growth counterpoint section so it's clear the terminology is being used descriptively here and isn't some established literary theory category.
• There were spacing issues before commas scattered throughout the whole document, nothing that affected the argument but it was bothering me so I cleaned it up globally.
• Ash's reaction to the XYZ farewell was already flagged as speculative but the sentences leading into it were still a little too definitive. That's been smoothed out.
• Reciprocal growth, bilateral reflection, growth counterpoint, these are now framed more clearly as terms that belong to this analysis specifically rather than concepts with wider academic standing.

What didn't change:

The actual argument is the same. Same scenes, same structure, same conclusion. This was purely a tone and consistency pass so if you already read you really only need to check Sections 04, 05, 08, and 09 if you're curious about the specific changes.

I finally finished making a full episode by episode breakdown and deep analysis guide for 86 . It covers all of Season 1 and the special episode, and I basically made it as a rewatch companion for people who already love the anime as much as I do.

I tried to go way beyond just summarizing the episodes. I talked about the emotional moments, hidden details, foreshadowing, themes, character development, visual storytelling, soundtrack usage, and a lot of the smaller things that make 86 hit so hard emotionally.

This does contain full anime spoilers, including major deaths, Shepherd reveals, Shin and Lena’s development, and the ending, so definitely don’t read it if you haven’t finished the series yet.

I spent a really long time working on this and putting my thoughts together, so I’d honestly love to hear what people think, whether it’s feedback, favorite sections, things I missed, or just discussion about the series in general.
