Beginner guitarist question: do your fingertips eventually stop getting destroyed?

Been learning guitar for a few weeks now and my fingertips are getting absolutely cooked.

There’s literally little dents/lines where the strings press into my fingers and after practicing for a while it starts feeling sore enough that I need breaks.

I’m guessing this is normal beginner stuff and calluses eventually build up, but is there anything I should actually be doing to make it less painful? Or is it basically just “suffer through it for a month” lol

Also wondering if pressing too hard on the strings is part of the issue because I feel like I death-grip every chord right now.

People can be surprisingly kind sometimes

Was at Tim Hortons this morning before class and there was this older guy in front of me trying to pay for a coffee with a handful of coins. He kept dropping them and you could tell he was embarrassed because the line behind him was getting longer.

One dude behind him sighed loud as hell and switched lines.

Before the cashier could even say anything, this girl beside me just tapped her card and went “I got it.”

The old guy genuinely looked shocked. He kept trying to give her the coins and she just smiled and told him to keep them.

What got me wasn’t even the payment, it was how fast everyone went from annoyed to silent after that. Like the whole mood changed instantly.

I don’t know. People talk about the city feeling colder now, but little moments like that kind of restore my faith in people a bit.
