Why keep trying when you don't think you can reach it?

Some weeks ago, I got serious into training my singing skills. I had gone through a lot of videos about theory, proper posture, proper breathing, avoiding nasality and other stuff and practicing the exercises along for some days on a streak. One day, my lil sister comes into my room and sees a little paper where I write down the things I want to train daily so I don't spend my entire summer scrolling on social media. She sees the phrase "practice singing skills" and asks "why are you practicing your singing skills? You are awful at singing". I told her to knock it off and dismissed her comments, but a few days later, I have to admit that it hit me more deeply than I would want to. It's been ringing inside my head nonstop like cricket's singing (ain't that ironic?) in summer. My name is Kevin, I am 18 years old, and I have thought of ending my own life far more times for my age that I would like to admit, all because of my lack of skills about anything. At first I dreamt of becoming a master of everything I did, aspiring to be the modern version of Da Vinci, my childhood aspiration. I was not able to reach that level so I lowered my expectations and said "ok, maybe a master is too much. Being very good is more than enough" and of course, that never happened. And I lowered my expectations even further saying "goddamnit Kevin! Well if you can't be very good, make something that is acceptable, something that will make people say 'good job' with a light tap on the shoulder" and to be fair, It did happen sometimes, with a bunch of discord friends of mine telling me my drawings look great now, although in the inside, I am not able to receive the compliment, I feel like my work is not worthy of it and I'm being a fraud for acting like it's something great. Trying to match up with my expectations feels like having to give a tribute every once to a giant monster with an endless appetite, and that everything I make is not sufficient to make it feel satisfied. Of all the defects I have (which aren't few), I consider my voice to be one of the worst. Not even as a kid, when I used to sing without feeling so afraid of other's opinion about it, I thought of my voice being nice. It's really raspy and I consider my tonsil hypertrophy as my body's reminder of "hey! Your voice sucks and you do too. Don't even try". With big artists or even with ordinary people, when someone is good you can see it in their everyday talking voice: it's great, it's nice, it feels warm and comfortable, that they have something inside of them like the shine of the hidden treasure. And despite my often self-destructive behaviour, I do not like to resort to attributing anyone's succeed to "talent", although I do sometimes resort to luck. I know that you can get to great levels of skills despite starting at a very low base level and that there are tons of examples out there. However, there is not a linear correlation of effort-skill. If put into a graphic, it would look something like a crazy fuckload of loops, of ups and downs. You have people who get there in a few months and there is people who need 20 years. There is people who succeed with bare efforts, and there's people who worked like mules for their entire life and die in the middle of the street without anyone's interest in them. And this is why things like PewDiePie's video of learning to draw in 1 year make me so pissed. Because it reminds me of my own failure. Because it shows me that my years of constant learning, my trial and error, is something that other can search without efforts. And every time I think of getting profesional help, I end up thinking: am I really worth bothering their time?
I don't have savings, am I really pursuing this aspiration and asking my parents for it?

Singing is very subjective, somewhat abstract and they say that your voice is your instrument, that almost anyone can sing well. However, some people were born with a 2000$ Les Paul guitar inside while others have a 12$ Fisher Price guitar inside. You know you are not reaching a pro's level, and you don't even know if you are going to get to an intermediate level of compliments, you don't even know if your voice is even going to get any. Maybe it might be better to raise down the head like a dog and accept that you are going to be mediocre at singing for your entire life, like many band members do, and find someone who is actually good at it. Maybe if I train enough I can be more than the low image of myself can imagine. Maybe I'm just a plain crybaby sending a brick of text on Reddit at 5am for being too coward to start anything that I am not instantly good at. Who knows.

How to work with a vocal teacher and find the most suitable for you

Heya! I made a post some days ago asking if getting a vocal teacher is a must-do and a lot of people commented helpful comments and gave good reasons to get one ^((thanks a lot!)). I had a look at the mega thread in the subreddit. First off, they're vocal teachers right? I want to clarify this first because the title says "vocal coaches" although I see people in the Reddit say they're actually teachers and by the descriptions, it seems so. I thought it would be like, "pay a month with 3 sessions a week of one hour" or similar, but It actually works in hours, which makes me really anxious about wasting my money in a lesson that I did not take advantage of. Money is a big factor as I just got out of high school and I'm studying a degree, so I have very little savings and I won't be able to work until summer, so I have to really optimise my spendings. I did not clarify this in the previous post but I do not aspire of becoming pro, I just search of being able to make my own music without relying on others to make the vocals and posting it online, without thinking of music being my main source of income or a source of income at all.

And now, the big questions (you must be tired of hearing these):

  1. How much time interval should go on before you get another lesson with a vocal teacher? What is a nice weekly/monthly class organising?

  2. What is a teacher supposed to do in each class and how can I know if they are being useful or if I am not getting my money worth and should find another teacher?

  3. Should I try to improve a bit on my own before l get a teacher to save up money?

  4. How to ask a teacher for online classes? Most teachers in here teach in the US or England, and there is none in my natal country, so, what should I do when asking for an online meeting and what to do in those?

Yes, I did read the "how to get a vocal teacher FAQ" pinned, however I would like to find a good structure for not paying for a session with too small time in between other session. Thank You!

Is paying for a coach TRULY necessary?

I am into a lot of hobbies. I learned, or I'm learning, all of them online, because I have the belief that knowing costs nothing, therefore learning shouldn't cost nothing either. However, with singing, every resource I see online on YouTube or in other sites seems to be a very vague vocal warmup and saying "oh yeah, just sing with your diaphragm" and not proceeding to explain how, or things for more advanced singers (I did find a few days ago a video from a channel called Victoria Victorious Vocal tips that seemed useful and I might try out). Everything I find seems to be behind a singing course and to be fair, in other activities such as guitar there are people trying to sell their own classes, and I am not condoning doing so, but they do tell you stuff for free that is helpful and have their classes as more in-depth help and one-on-one personal advice. As more example of what I mean if you see at the guitar Reddit's resources, there's a lot of tabs, exercises, useful pages and accounts, etc while in here is a list of courses ordered by price. Is paying for one of these mandatory for knowing how to sing?

Explaining the popular phrase "aceptamos pulpo como animal de compañía"

Hey, local native speaker here. Today, I'm explaining the meaning of the phrase "aceptamos pulpo como animal de companía". Translating this literally, It would mean "we are accepting octopus as pet/companion animal" but the meaning has nothing to do with having octopuses as pets. It comes from a Spanish commercial from the 90's of the game Scattergories (Based on simpler local games, in Latin America it's mostly called Tutti Frutti, in other places it's called Stop and in Spain it's called "Alto el lapiz"). It basically consists of saying a letter and finding words that start with that letter in different categories of common things (food, countries, names...) and the less amount of people with the same word, the more points you get. What we're here to talk, is that in the commercial, the owner of the game threatens to leave with his board game if his words aren't accepted. For example, he uses barco (boat) as a word for an aquatic animal and everyone else accepts it because if he leaves, they won't be able to keep playing (we all had a friend like that). When they ask for a companion animal starting with P, he says "pulpo" and the other person's have to accept it with a sigh. While the phrase isn't said in the advert word by word, it led to the common phrase. It comes to mean accepting without showing total approval to something absurd, hardly fitting or unacceptable to avoid confrontations or to quit ongoing ones. Below is a silly example:
-A: Saka is a better player than Gareth Bale
-B: He isn't. Bale scored 11 goals in Tottenham with 11 goals in 920 minutes, and won 5 Champions Leagues being a constant player in Real Madrid.
-A: But Saka is World Class
...
-B: Aceptamos pulpo como animal de compañía (he's tired of hearing stupid stuff about Saka)

I found explaining this phrase interesting because it's mildly used in Spain but its very unlikely that a foreigner will catch the meaning of the phrase in a conversation without the required context, probably thinking they are talking about real octopus or assuming that it means something similar to the phrase "it takes one to know one" as I saw some people online assume.

I'm thinking about explaining more local Spanish slang and common phrases that are definitely not taught in language learning apps. If you have anything you want to propose, feel free to tell me

Why is it not appearing on search?

I tried adding the quote marks, writing Heroes with and without capital letters but nothing seems to work. The way I have to access It is manually searching It on David Bowie's Albums. It's weird because it's a really well known album

What MP3 player should I get?

https://preview.redd.it/l2li2k6oqrdh1.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d8efbf782884dd86c0f8d1d523b88f68bac84ac6

I mean, an iPod Classic sounds like the most reasonable answer, but 1. The price is really big. 200-500 it's what it would cost for a decent phone pretty much. There's acceptable prices in second-hand sites however, here comes number two 2. Having no bluetooth is something that really pulls me away and I don't want to open It to add bluetooth. Innioasis Y1 feels like a great option, It used to have problems with certain Rockbox themes but supposedly they should be gone now. However I don't know if I should wait for the Y2 to have more info or buy the Y1 (Or maybe get other model however theres other MP3 player designs I don't like that look like a small smartwatch screen. I like the old iPod Classic design)

I hate these 750 trophies skins

I really hate It. The fourth highest rank and they give you the ugly cheap skins nobody wants. At least masteries gave you resources you needed. And not only that but if you have the skin, they pretty much give you nothing. They don't even have the courtesy of giving you a compensation for it (for example brawlers without the cheap skins give you 1000 credits, which I find far more useful than the normal skins)

How to put songs in a list that don't appear in the search box

(I'm sorry for asking so much stuff) Soo, Im making a top 200 songs list and I want to put this pretty cool song in. The thing is that its name is pretty common and as you see, it's pretty obscure (This also happened with the song Killing Time by Magdalena Bay strangely). Sure, you could manually add It in the "other" section in add, but, being honest, that doesn't look good. Ive tried with the song ID but that doesn't work, and there's no "see more" button as in the manual search, so am I having to be stuck to the "other" section and add the photo and info myself?
