New (to me) XP-Compatible Chrome Fork: Chromium-for-windows-7-REWORK

Direct download link for people with older browsers that struggle with GitHub: https://github.com/e3kskoy7wqk/Chromium-for-windows-7-REWORK/releases/download/150.0.7828.0/mini_installer.exe

What it is: An alternative to Supermium.

What makes it better: Seems to drop fewer frames in YT, WebGL works by default (in software mode). You can enable it in Supermium, but in Supermium it runs much slower (Supermium on the left). Seems to bench better on XP, though i only did 2 runs (same extensions enabled on both browsers). Number go up -- Supermium is on ver. 144, this thing's 150.

What makes it worse: Better the devil you know -- we know Supermium & win32 who made it, it's been around ~3 years. This project's less than a year old & we don't know e3kskoy7wqk, who is from China (people here seem to have a thing for Chinese software, personally don't have an opinion, especially when it's open sauce).

On a more pragmatic note, had to jump through hoops to install uBlock Origin (no problems with uBlock Origin Lite & all other extensions i tried). Might be other things wrong with it too, haven't played with it long.

BTW, don't take this post as an endorsement -- ran across this on MSFN & thought i'd share.

All testing was done on a newer box running 32-bit XP, with a powerful (by XP standards) CPU & plenty of memory -- this thing might perform worse than Supermium if your HW is older.

P.S. Like most other browsers, you don't have to run the installer unless you want to -- simply open mini_installer.exe with 7zip & run chrome from Chrome-bin folder.

Strange White "Spray Trails" Under the Hood -- Water Pump?

These look to be inline with the water pump, the space between them seems like it could be the thermostat housing "shadow" (the car's M44 1.9) The spray trails are white, not greasy, don't come off with a dry rag, come off easily with isopropyl. A couple of questions:

  1. 95% sure it's the water pump, but why white? Would it be some plastic bearing melting or? Have replaced the idler pullies last summer (one of them squealed), felt the water pump when the belt was off, no play, felt good. The car isn't losing coolant, no strange noises from the pump.

  2. When these pumps fail, do they fail catastrophically, or are there warnings (noise, leaking coolant, etc.)? Both poor and cheap, so would rather not replace the pump preemptively (unless, of course, they do fail catastrophically).

Any advice appreciated.

Remember the Linux Cube?

Good news! With CubeDesktop, you no longer need settle for but one measly desktop! Choose between 6, SIX fully customizable XP desktops, desktops to switch between by spinning a clever 3D cube! (This community does not allow videos, so here's a link to one.)

The link's to a trial version, good for 2 hrs of use~~, but you'll uninstall it long before that~~. I'll show myself out.

Was looking for a logical excuse for keeping 2 Titan Xs in my XP multiboot box (24GB VRAM), the only thing i came up with was AI. Installed a bunch of AI stuff on the 11 partition in the "know thy enemy" mindset, and, to my shame, sort of got into it (if nothing else, for the fun of turning electricity into heat with a pair of decade-old GPUs). Not what this post is about -- it's about playing with AI on the lowliest HW that can run Supermium, don't even need a GPU.

It's about https://gemini.google.com/ <=click

slowpoke.gif, but just found out about it today. Lets you do text-text (long conversations), text-image, text-music (lets you define instruments and stuff), and ...a bunch of other things. All heavily nerfed (won't tell you how to make nitric acid from household chemicals, or paint you a picture of Greta Thunberg picnicking with Nyarlathotep), but still fun & free (on free tier), you might need a Google account, not sure (i'm signed into mine).
