Got this for free from an old lady, it was her late husband's, who was a bit of a horder before he passed. Got it to boot to find a slow, bloated Windows XP installation. No matter, I threw in my Windows XP home CD and gave it a fresh install. Installed Office XP as well. It's a beautiful machine, but I need a new battery for it as the machine sat idle for about a decade, and the cells were clearly damaged and the BMS had locked the battery out. Had a heart attack pulling out the drive to find an IBM travelstar, not a deathstar luckily. Love this machine to bits! Plan on installing putty to use as a serial terminal as well as other things.

Edit 2: one thing I'd like to add is that the sound drivers worked out of the box, so title.wma was playing during the OOBE

This guy is from 2006, AMD athlon 64 fx-62, 7950gx2, motherboard nforce 590sli, 4gb ddr2. The seller listed it for parts, but I brought it home and found out It turns on and runs well. The only thing missing is the hard drive, fortunately I have a spare 64g ssd around, pop it in and freshly installed win xp x86, there it goes my vintage PC! First thing I did is to redo the thermopaste on the gpu, it's been 20 years, it needs some tlc.

Now all that's left is some drivers for Bluetooth, networking, sound, etc.

I have found those websites but I still encounter youtube google etc in an modern UI based design, then I still want the older Web 1.0 designs and themes much of Web 1.0 onto the live internet. I would also want the 2009 web designs etc of youtube, goiogle facebook etc, parts of the internet in 2003-2009 and other websites with an 2010 version of the Web, rather than the modern web with bloat

This is a really old computer that sits as the main controller in a test jig, it uses an ancient PXI card from National Instruments to link with the jig chassis.

The original disk became corrupted or had bad blocks, it wouldn't boot at all, only after running chkdsk on the c: partition.

So I cloned the hdd to an ssd and it booted first try but the happiness lasted a few seconds because it threw me an activation screen saying that a significant part of the hardware had changed and I needed to reactivate it.

Ok, I thought "let's do the phone activation" just like I did last year with a similar machine!

Selected the country and it gave two numbers, one local and one toll-free.. Neither worked...

Instead of panicking I tried for the first time a tool called xp_activate32.exe inside the Windows Sandbox app in a newer win11 machine, as most sites would tell it was a virus.

It got activated just as easily as possible, faster than calling and punching in the numbers from step 3 and hearing back the numbers to type them in step 4.
