[iOS, beta] I'm making a navigation app that gives you pleasant routes

Hi! I’m Yves, the solo developer behind Dryv.

Most navigation apps optimise for arriving as quickly as possible. But sometimes I have time, and I wanted something that gives me the scenic route, so I built Dryv for these occasions where the route is as important as the destination.

It compares the fastest route with alternatives designed to be more enjoyable to drive, then explains what each alternative offers and what the detour costs.

I’m not looking for generic “looks good” feedback. The most useful test is very specific:

  • Choose a journey or loop on roads you already know
  • Compare the proposed routes
  • Rate whether each route option feels good or bad (there's a reason picker for bad)
    • I'm interested in what you think about the quality of the generated explanations too and if you find that some kinds of places are missed.
  • If possible, start navigation and drive one of them (I use it as my standard GPS app now, even for the fastest route, and it works very well)

If Dryv recommends a bad alternative, that is exactly what I want to hear. Was it boring, stressful, unnecessarily long, on the wrong kind of road, or simply not worth the extra time?

I initially tuned the routing around the Alps and Jura as that's around where I live. Now I need to learn whether those choices hold up on roads elsewhere, especially routes that local drivers already understand well.

Current beta limits

iPhone only, requiring iOS 26.1 or newer

  • English only
  • Route and map coverage across Europe, the United States and Japan
  • Search does not yet support street numbers or businesses, so it's street names and city/town/village names for now
  • Route planning and rerouting require an internet connection
  • Navigation currently uses more battery than I think it should
  • No live traffic

No account is required. You can rate routes directly in the comparison screen and add details when something is wrong.

I read the feedback personally and will answer questions here. Honest negative feedback is particularly useful.

Questions on a 1997 Z3 Roadster

I contemplating butting a 97’ Z3 roadster with 86,000 miles on it, the car looks immaculate for its age with no rust no dents, the paint still look new, the interior is in great condition, no seat tears or anything of the sort, all powered thing work as they should it runs great. However my dad says that they are junk, but doing some research shows they can last a very long time given proper maintenance which I intend on doing my self. The seller wants $7,000 obo. What do you guys think? Is my dad right or is this a good, and reliable buy?

Lseat covers for M roadster

Anyone tried these seat covers from Lseat.com ? My seats are cracked in several spots, so conditioning/dying them is not going to be adequate. Short of full reupholstering, these seem like they’re the best option for an OE look? I think the “dark red” is probably closest to Imola red seats?

Cal Club Aug 16 AutoX in a 2000 BMW Z3 - 3 Competition Runs

This past weekend was a hot one in Lake Elsinore, CA, where I got about 25 runs over 2 days of sweaty fun. My first timed competition run was a DNF due to my losing focus for just a moment, but my last three were good and consistent. I would appreciate observations and comments in an effort to improve.

I've started tracking my times compared to the top PAX and top Class finishers this year, and this was my best showing yet; I got 95.45% of the Class Winner's time and 93.08% of the Top-5 (averaged) PAX times, up from 85.1% of the Class Winner's time and 83.92% of the Top-5 (averaged) PAX times when I got back into this in January. Last month I was 92.49% of the Class Winner's and 89.88% of the PAX Average, so even month-to-month is getting better.

Update: Bought a Z3!

Last week I was waffling in deciding between a Z3 or an NC Miata.

Well, I found a Z3 that was (allegedly) in excellent condition, a "garage queen", as the listing claimed. The price was low ($6,500) and it was only a couple hours from me. (and it's in my (and wife's) favorite color)

The seller did not misrepresent. Zero rust, and I mean zero. The rear suspension still had the OEM paint, all fasteners still held the same grey patina. 5spd, 2.8L, A few paint chips here and there, and a spot on the front bumper lip that likely involved a parking block. The owner was okay with me "getting on it" so I thrashed it! It shifts smoothly and I was quite surprised to see it chirp the tires in second gear.

20 years of service reports from a local BMW specialist shop (not a BMW dealer though) included this gem: full coolant system overhaul.

The slight cause for concern: 152k on the clock. From what I've read, that shouldn't really be an issue as long as maintenance is done. There's also a CEL for P1622 that I need to chase down.

Having driven a couple Z3's this past week, I do suspect that the front end on this one is a bit "mushy". From what I can tell, this car is completely OEM, even down to the CD player. The top is in good shape, with the exception of the seal on the rear window starting to lift in one small spot. I'll use some adhesive for now as a temporary repair.

How'd I do?

I did drive a 97 as well on Saturday. Suspension in the front felt a fair bit tighter and the exhaust note had a growl to it that just put a smile on my face. Seller was a "I know what I got" sort of seller and was asking premium price for an Autozoned car (led's, poorly installed sound system, questionable pin striping. I walked)

Having studied the market for the past few months, I felt the price was fair and didn't haggle with him. So yeah, the proud new owner of a 26 year old roadster😁

Previous owner appears to have glued badge on and it fell off. Did I buy the correct replacement?

I have a 2002 BMW z3 2.5i (non-M) Roadster, and I came back from a drive to find my rear roundel missing. There was glue residue that I cleaned, and I ordered what I thought was the replacement badge. is the bottom part of the old roundel still attached, or did I buy the wrong replacement? I don't want to pry at anything until I'm absolutely sure.

is 650€ fair for this soft top?

Im potentially buying a used replacement top for my M44 1.9l from this imported donor Z3 M.

The seller is asking 650€.

A decent soft top fabric in germany is 600€ at least and this would save me some of the hassle required to install it.

what do yall think? good deal or no

How would you go about things?

1998 2.8L 5-spd. body good. no rust. 87k miles.

PNW car. 2-sets of wheels. 2-sets of tires. snow tires currently on as prior owner drove in the winter in the rain and it’s been sitting since. It came with a new soft top I need to install. new clutch.

I ordered the ZKE module on eBay. it’s now garage parked and has the original cover from the original owner on it.

the musty smell is known from the soft top needing replaced. I knew it has a slooow oil leak. (~1quart every 1k miles, which is actually less than my 3.6L Subaru Outback had from the factory)

how would y’all go about fixing things on this car in the most logical and economical manner?

Non ethanol or top tier?

I just found out that gas from certain gas stations is labeled as “top tier“ because it’s better than what they sell at other places because it has certain extra things in it. I’ve been getting premium non ethanol for my 1997 2.8L z3. I see some people saying to get the top tier gas because it’s better for your car, but I also see some people saying to get non ethanol. i don’t have gas stations near me that sells “non ethanol premium top tier” so I was wondering which one I should choose. I only ever have had a beater car that I just threw 87 gas from random gas stations into. I had no idea there was a such thing as top tier gas until today. Whenever I got my z3 I would just go to Walmart and get non ethanol premium since they’re the only gas station nearby that had non ethanol premium. Could someone let me know what gas you use for your z3 and what I should be using? It may be a stupid question but I’m getting mixed answers everywhere. It looks like there’s upsides to both but I can’t have both at the same time

Preferred Code reader?

What is everyone using for the 20-Pin code reader, and what makes it your favourite?

I'm seeing a few different options out there, but can't decide which to get. I'd prefer something with a complete library that has a good screen display, and tells you more than just a number.

Is it worth it (first project, beginner)

So I found this car and I am pretty sure it’s been abandoned for at least a year (the other side is in decent condition). I am thinking of trying to get it in a really low price the fix it.

Mysterious hole letting water into trunk

Anyone have any idea what this hole might have been for? It was drilled into the car for sure with all the marks around it. All I know is it’s letting a ton of water into the poor little Z’s trunk. I’ve only owned it for a few weeks so I don’t have the slightest clue what it’s from unfortunately. (Hole drilled directly above hydraulic pump bypass screw… can’t miss it)

Any cheap car covers?

Does anyone know of a cheaper car cover tarp thing I could use for my z3? I have a soft top and just don’t want it getting messed up. I drive my z3 almost everyday so I didn’t want to get a normal car cover since it would be annoying to take off and put on constantly. I was thinking about seeing if there some sort of tarp I could throw on there instead. If anyone has a car cover, could you guys let me know what you use? Also, if it wasn’t clear, I’m looking for a cheaper one. Most of the ones I can find are like $100+

First car, good idea?

I could buy a 1997 1.9l z3 automatic roadster from my grandpa. It was always parked in a garage but has some rust that has been welded. It leaks oil, I don’t know where exactly because he just told me this information. He also said that the motor sometimes just turns off. It would be my first car and I would like it as a project because I don’t need a car everyday. My question is, is it a good idea to try and restore it or is it a lost cause. (Sorry for the bad picture. It’s the only one I have.)

Need to sell - Suggestions where to list?

I need the garage space, might be potentially moving, and can generally use the cash right now. It's unfortunate because I definitely would want to keep it but just doesn't make sense when I know it can be better kept by someone having the space and capacity for it.

I don't have Facebook so no marketplace. Craigslist is dead these days. Where would you guys recommend to post? I've spent 10k, and ideally really wouldnt want to lose too much. It's never seen salt, so there's zero rust. The rear window has a crack in the original (still perfect condition) roof. I have a new zip in window, and a new replacement soft top on the side.

Only light on is the passenger airbag (likely sensor or pinched wire), maintained by bmw dealers, just hit 100k, 5 speed manual 2.8l, 2000.
