1st mock of my brand new engine kill switch.

Necessity is the mother of invention.
Racing clubs require an engine kill switch that a corner marshal can trigger in case of emergency.

High end race cars and open wheel cars have fancy protected electronic kill switches. There is no single kit on the market that has all the parts required for a hone built car.

So the only path is Fabrication. Took me
A Month to find the part that I needed, a random piece of steel.

I’m using the holes left behind after removing the mirrors (see my previous build post).

This solution (that I had in my head for several months) is kind of unique.

I just need to use My cardboard template and build the little aluminum plate.

I will do another kill switch on the other side.

New universal racing mirrors will be relocated behind the base of the A pillar.

Once this is all wrapped, it will look and work like a fancy race car.

Wiring a Z3 Race Car

Design is mine. Working on every cable and terminal by hand one at a time.

(Yes. I will have the car interior painted, not ready for that yet)

Deleted the Power Steering

Expecting this car to be around 2500Lbs with driver and full tank.

Don’t need no stinking power steering lines, pumps, motors, cooling, and reservoir.

All replaced by an aluminum piece that weights about 50 grams.

3 updates on my project.

For details on the project plan see

Z3 Race Car Build

  1. Trans is mounted, I had to remove the entire drivers side of the trans tunnel to fit it: no problem. Is actually an opportunity, I’m going to fabricate a removable cover (fire and heat isolated with Dzus fasteners) to be able to service the trans even in pit garage.
  2. Cabin Electrical design is done. All state of the art solid state components. Will be the safest electrical design in the track. Hahaha.
  3. Switch plate also designed. Will clamp cleanly to the das

h

  1. roll bar. Very ergonomic and simple.

The Power Train

Back at it again. With the help and creative mechanics of a friend, this project continues to take shape.
We have been able to clear some technical hurdles to get this done.
This is the first fit test of everything put together. After we iron some details, the next phase will be to transplant this into the chassis and design how to bolt it.
Once this is done, the work on getting the new engine race ready will begin.
There are dozens of other small side projects, but we will tackle them one a time. #racecars

No engine no transmission

Getting the car ready for endurance racing by removing the Powerplant, transmission, every single wire and connector, steering wheel, seats, panels ETC. Aiming for 2300Lb once I replace all that no. Sense with racing parts

Almost done after 2 weeks of building

I finished installing a pair of bass shakers (front and back) and the ride is very close to the real thing.

The ONLY thing that I want to add is the seatbelt tensioner.

Wind simulator probably too.

But that’s about it.

Almost ready to get through my Safety rating requirement.

Shake Shake it baby - and a car Jack

There is no PnP solution for bass shakers anywhere in the world at this point. Everything is in back order. So I decided I would try Installing two of these things, a mini amo and some basic wiring.

I had to use the Jack, my wife thought it was funny 🤣

Swapping the engine

Is a race car and the engine failed with either smoke and oil leaking through gasket and coming out of exhaust.

We decided to do an engine swap and found a healthy M54 3L from a 530i.

Watch me take the engine apart and find what broke
