Next up on our world tour: Czech Republic! Not going to lie, my unworldly mind was blown when I was doing research on the Czech Republic. Had no idea their beer scene was so impressive. They hold the world record for the highest beer consumption per capita. Czechs drink more beer per person than any other nationality on Earth (approx. 140–160 liters annually). It is said that you never more than a couple of miles from a brewery here. With over 550 breweries ranging from massive, historic giants to tiny neighborhood microbreweries. This is also the home of the original Pilsner. Also, it's common to have a beer with lunch, and in many places, it’s cheaper than bottled water. You won't just see "IPA" or "Lager" on menus. Czech beer is categorized by "degrees" (e.g., 10°, 11°, 12°), which refers to the original gravity of the wort before fermentation. Okay, I'm done learning/teaching/copying/pasting. This should be a fun one. Time for the legends: Belgium! With roughly 430 breweries, it is the world’s most prestigious beer nation. The culture is so deeply ingrained that UNESCO named it an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. There are only a handful of authentic "Trappist" breweries in the world, and most are in Belgium. To be a true Trappist beer, it must be brewed within the walls of a monastery by the monks themselves (or under their strict supervision), and the profits must go toward charity, not profit.

Favorite Brewery by Territories: Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon

If you've been paying attention to the Canadian Province posts, you are aware of overwhelming public demand… nonstop campaigning… protests in the streets… and mounting pressure from powerful special-interest groups… it is finally time to give the Territories their flowers. After being aggressively lobbied by a fellow Redditor and following what can only be described as lengthy and difficult negotiations, we were able to reach a compromise agreement to include the Territories in the series. Democracy in action.

What came from the negotiations was a single post, combining all 3 Territories and their 8ish breweries. So there you have it. Name your favorite of the 8...and we will put a bow on Canada.

Finally, Saskatchewan! Last but not least....well, 4th from least since they rank 7th in the US with 38 breweries. But, hey, NOT LEAST! And nearly least in the per capita rankings as they also rank 7th per capita. And, yes, I used darn near the same wording for the last US state. I am not creative. Top of the Hops Grapes and Grains is Saskatchewan's largest craft beer fest and the 21st edition took place in late April.

Quebec ranks 2nd in the country for total breweries with around 315. Despite that impressive total, they are 8th in breweries per capita. Bières et Saveurs de Chambly is recognized as the largest craft beer festival in Quebec. Held annually at the historic Fort-Chambly site along the Richelieu River, major event features over 110 breweries. This years event takes place September 4th - 7th. You should go.

Not much of a surprise, Prince Edward Island has the fewest breweries in Canada with just 10 in the Province. With the small population, however, they rank 2nd in breweries per capita. The largest and most prominent craft beer festival in Prince Edward Island is the PEI Beer Festival, held annually in Charlottetown. The 2026 event takes place on March 20–21 with over 30 breweries. Toronto’s Festival of Beer is Canada's largest beer festival which takes place in July. The event started in 1996 and features over 400 breweries. You should go. The largest craft beer festival in Nova Scotia is the Halifax Seaport Cider & Beerfest (often referred to as Seaport Beerfest), typically held in August at the Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market. It's Monday. Lets start your Monday with a fun fact that you can drop at the ole water cooler this morning. Newfoundland and Labrador has more letters in their name (23) than they have breweries in their Providence (21). The 21 breweries ranks 9th. The Province ranks 5th in the nation in breweries per capita. The largest craft beer festival in NL...well... it confuses me a bit. Newfoundland Craft Beer Festival will host it's 10th annual event this year, and it seems to take place in multiple cities over multiple dates. Seems like there are multiple events spread out through the year for this one festival. Anyway, you should go.

Moving on to Canada! Alberta has 170 breweries, which is the 4th most in Canada. The Calgary International Beerfest (CIBF) is the largest beer festival in Alberta and all of Canada, often ranked among the top five globally. Held annually at the BMO Centre, Stampede Park, it showcases over 700 varieties of beer from more than 200 breweries. The festival celebrated it's 20th year last weekend. You should have went.

On Wisconsin....on to Wisconsin. MY HOME STATE! (so pardon the extreme bias) There are 266 incredible breweries here, which is a super impressive 14th nationally, and a remarkable 13th per capita. The Great Taste of the Midwest in Madison is indeed GREAT. Probably the greatest. The festival is widely considered the premier and largest craft beer festival in Wisconsin, featuring around 200 extraordinary breweries and 1,400+ spectacular beers. Held annually in August it is the second longest-running craft beer festival in North America.

Snallygaster is the largest beer festival in DC that has taken place every October since 2012 (which, if you’re doing the math at home, is just about one year for every brewery in the district. Because, you know, there are FOURTEEEN breweries in the district). Go ahead and name your favorite of the FOURTEEN or go ahead and shame me for including DC in this series.

With 75% of all US hops being grown here, of course Washington is going to be a major beer making state. They have 460 breweries (5th in the US) and 9th per capita. The Washington Brewers Festival is the "largest celebration of craft beer in Washington" (according to the website) and will be held Saturday, June 13.
