I love your state so much and wanted somewhere to express it

This is my second time visiting Wyoming. First time I visited was a roadtrip from TN to Jackson Hole to visit the Tetons. That’s when I first fell in love. This trip I’m on now is for my move, just passing through since my job moved me to Seattle and I’ve got to pass through to make it to Washington. Came through Cheyenne/Laramie/Rock Springs the first route and this route takes me through Gillette and Casper.

So far I’ve visited 35 states in the country, and no state speaks to me on the level Wyoming does. I’m from rural TN so maybe that has something to do with it, I’m used to rural life. But it’s just so different from home too

Wyoming really clears my mind. The free range wildlife, the isolation, everyone is so welcoming and kind, the gorgeous rolling hills with sagebrush and wildflowers all the way to the mountains out west. I just really wanted to express to the Wyoming locals that I recognize your state goes under the radar and everyone thinks “oh there isn’t anything there”. Right. And that’s why I like it. It’s nature untouched and wildlife untamed. I can’t get enough of it.

I’m sure it has its flaws, all states do, and I don’t want to over romanticize it to the point to where I ignore those. Winters are brutal and it takes an hour to get to a Walmart in some parts. But man I just think the positives really outweigh the cons. And sure that comes to personal taste. But your state is just so lovely and I want to visit every chance I get

One day down the road, if yall would have me, I’d love to call this place home when I retire.

Keep being awesome, Wyoming

Also shoutout to Josh Allen, my favorite QB, attending the U of Wyo

Green River Lakes road

Hi all, I'm making a spontaneous trip into the NW of the state this weekend and I've wanted to visit Green River Lakes for a while.

I see that there's some active construction happening on the road and also some rain early in the week. The Forest Service web site says to expect delays of about 30 minutes. I'm alright with that, but if the road's muddy or otherwise in bad condition on top of that, I might want to reconsider because I've only got my little Honda Fit (RIP XJ o7). I don't mind a washboard road or some bumpy driving, I just don't want to get stuck somewhere.

P.S. -- For anyone who's been recently, how's the camping right now? We talked about fishing and doing the main loop trail as well.

Star Valley - Alpine - Afton

Hi all. We’re finally making a move to Wyoming. Years ago when we were still in Montana, we talked about it. Now, from the muggy heat of Texas, I write this post as I daydream of snow banks and know it will happen this fall.

We’re looking closely at the Star Valley area. Specifically, Star Valley Ranch, Alpine and possibly Afton. We have good friends who live in WY and have recommended this area to us (two adults and two small children) but want your take.

I’ve done the requisite googling, chat GPT research but would love to hear from you all some of the things that might not show up in an online search. For example, I recently learned there is quite a Mormon population in the area (don’t care). Would love more nuanced details like that. We’ll be checking out the area in its prime (late July, in 3 weeks) so anything about those tough winter months would be appreciated too. Thanks!

ETA: partner is from Germany, I grew up in rural upstate NY. I’m not from Texas you guys.

Inherited an old Ansul system with our building, who can actually service these?

We took over a commercial space in the Casper area that came with an existing Ansul fire suppression system in the kitchen, but there is no record of when it was last serviced or tested. I do not want to assume it works and find out the hard way. Does anyone know who actually specializes in Ansul systems around here for inspection and testing? Would rather have a certified pro look at it than guess.

The irony

Visiting Wyoming from the worst state for guns , NY. I can walk into a Sportsman Warehouse and buy 500 rounds of 9mm and show no id. But try and buy a lottery ticket in this state and you need a picture id. 🤔

Anybody remember when lightning struck near Walmart in Laramie and it cut off the power of entire homes?

Dude Ranch Advice

Hello! I’m looking for advice on which dude ranch is best suited for me. I’m an intermediate rider looking to go on a riding-focused trip in Wyoming sometime next year, most likely over Labor Day weekend or later in September.

What I’m looking for:
- Riding focus, galloping permitted
- Ideally located between Jackson Hole up to towards Yellowstone
- Not catered towards families as I’m going solo and in my late twenties

Nice to haves:
- Whitewater rafting nearby or included with the stay
- All inclusive set up

I’m currently debating between Spotted Horse Ranch, Triangle X, or R Lazy S Ranch.

I’ve looked at Paradise Ranch, The Hideout, and Triangle C Ranch as options but these don’t standout as much to me.

One thing that stands out is how ranches stand down a lot of activities post Labor Day so I’m wondering if it’s not worth it to go in the fall.

Thanks in advance for any reviews or opinions!! Greatly appreciated.

Looking for "pickers"

My parents recently passed away and I have all kinds of "stuff ". I used to watch American Pickers. I was wondering if there is such a thing in Wyoming. I'm in SE Wyoming. We're going to be garage sales but I think that we're going to need a higher level for some of this stuff.

Jobs?

I'm 17, living in Gillette. I've been applying to jobs but it's like no one is hiring. Any advice or ideas? I need to get out of Gillette at some point, but that requires money. 😩

Idk if this changes anything but I do have type 1 Osteogenesis Imperfecta. I am physically capable and don't have any restrictions, but I'm sure some physically demanding jobs wouldn't hire because of that.
