PSA about outfits/clothes if younger potty training

Not sure if this is something I should’ve known about before potty training or not but…

Depending on the method you choose, once you start potty training you can basically no longer use any onesies, footie pajamas, overalls/bibs etc 😭 I was not prepared for this. I have a pile of clothes that are for warmer weather that I’ve been waiting for him to wear, only to discover he wont be able to wear them at all. This might only be an issue for kiddos wearing smaller than 2T? My toddler was still in some 18 and 24mo clothing as he runs a bit small. I am noticing most clothing after 2T is separate pieces.

Of course, if you really wanted to you still could put them on. But to me it seems silly to unbutton a onesie or have to get their arms out of overalls or footies, when you need to be able to pretty quickly get their pants down. In addition to teaching them how to pull their pants down! We've been able to put him in some favorite footie pajamas at night since we are still diapering at night. So there’s that.

Anyways, this was not on my radar even as I was heavily into potty training info. RIP to the cute summer onesies and cute summer overalls that will sadly never be worn.

Please help us decide.

We have an upcoming 4 hour flight, will be LOs first flight. He will be 23 months old. We got him his own seat even though he is under 2. We will have to check a car seat anyways for our destination, and I was planning on getting the Costco Extend (new version of Costco Next, even if a bit bigger).

We can’t decide on bringing the car seat on the plane versus gate checking. I’ve heard mixed reviews on bringing them on the plane. LO is very active and the flight is not exactly near his nap time, but he will probably fall asleep at some point because of our earlier wake up. My thought is, the car seat would be safer and more comfortable if he does want to sleep. We could forward face it so he can watch something on the TV or use the tray for toys, etc. My other thought is, it will be bulky and take up space when he just wants to be moving around anyways. Other option would be the CARES airplane harness. Fine for takeoff and landing but he wouldn’t sleep in the seat upright like that, he’d be on us (which is totally fine).

Does anyone know, since he is technically under 2, if he will be required to be seated and buckled for takeoff/landing? Since he’s under 2…technically he could’ve been a lap kid. Having his car seat would make it feel more routine to sit down and buckle him up, if the buckling is required, you know? I’m just trying to avoid any and all tantrums and I feel like no matter what we decide, we will wish we did the other thing 😂

Lastly…I can’t decide on car seat bag. The ones with wheels are so pricey. We will also be gate checking a stroller, so we can just throw the car seat on the stroller to move through the airport, right? The car seat weighs 8.8 lbs. I thought a backpack bag, but we will both already have backpacks. So into the stroller it is? (I can wear LO if needed if stroller is taken up)

Please share any positive or negative experiences with bringing car seat on plane. I’m ready for this to not take up any more brain space 🫠
