Hybrid analog DJ/studio setup

Allen & Heath GL2400 24ch with 2x 16ch custom soldered multicore snakes going into a 19” rack containing an 18x18 interface, DSP and Mac Mini M4. I also built a custom patch panel for easy access and quick multicore connections.

3D printing combined with building racks and cables is actually the perfect combination.
Custom strain reliefs, chassis connections, super durable numbered rings for XLR and jack cables, endless little solutions that make everything cleaner and more reliable.

The whole setup is heavily inspired by Simon Posford’s (Shpongle) live workflow, using multitrack stems instead of just playing finished tracks.

Traktor handles decks and clock while MainStage works as an internal routing and FX environment between all the hardware and software. Everything gets sent back into the analog desk for live mixing, aux FX sends and eq. The GL2400 basically becomes one giant performance instrument.

Then with one click I open Logic and the whole thing turns into a recording studio. I freaking love mixing on analog gear.

Ableton is mainly used for loops and live elements, while Traktor handles everything that isn’t multitracked.

It’s ridiculously fun to play on.

My hybrid analog DJ setup

Hybrid analog DJ setup I’ve been building for a long time.

On the ground there’s a 19” rack.
Main mixer is an Allen & Heath GL2400 24ch. The first 18 channels are connected through a custom soldered multicore snake to the audio rack below. The remaining channels on the mixer are used for synths and extra gear.

The audio rack contains:

• 18 in / 18 out audio interface
• 4 in / 8 out DSP
• Mac Mini M4

Inside macOS I made a combined audio device with:

• TR-8S multitrack outputs
• Separate DJ deck channels
• BlackHole 16ch for internal routing between apps

I use MainStage as an internal router and FX environment. It receives channels from the TR-8S, Traktor and other sources, then sends everything back out to any channel I want on the analog mixer through the interface and multicore.

A few weeks ago I switched from Rekordbox to a Traktor X1 setup and honestly… absolute game changer.

The GL2400 gives me 6 aux sends that I use as dedicated hardware-style FX buses, so all the actual mixing and DJing happens on the analog desk itself.

From the mixer I also send L/R and SUB as separate outputs, so I can decide exactly which channels go into the subs.

It’s ridiculously fun to play on.

I know about the classic “empty bottle flush”, but looking for real experiences. Added 10 drops of water to an almost empty bottle, planning to take 1 drop.

Going to Shpongle in London and definitely don’t want to trip balls 😅 Curious what people’s experiences are with leftover potency after evaporation.
