There’s a lot of discourse by fans here, both negative and positive. My words to follow will not change anyone’s opinion, but maybe it will lead to a bit more understanding.

Please allow me to tell you a story as a father and a husband.

I’ve been going to the Giants’ ballpark since the early 2000s; not long after they moved to downtown.

I brought my wife there when we were dating and later our children when they came along. The Giants have always been a part of my family. Every year, the cadence of life is baseball for us.

When my oldest picked out their first piece of Giants gear they selected a Giants logo shirt in pride colors. My wife and I had a feeling that that our child was going to be part of this community.

We didn’t put labels on it at the time. We didn’t know what part, but we were proud that the organization we supported felt like a safe place.

Honestly, deep down I was scared. I fully accept my child as is, but I knew that the world was not going to always treat them with the same acceptance.

I feel as though the organization is simply using the pride movement as a money making gimmick.

I know that my words here will probably make no difference to the Giants organization, but I want everyone who is listening to know that my heart is broken as a Father and Giants fan.

Even if the Giants apologize today it won’t restore my trust. it’s going to take a lot more work on their part to make me believe in them.

Until then, I decided to part-ways with the Giants and hope that they one day come back to me.

I’ve seen many things in my life. I’ve seen people beat addiction and come back only to loose again. I’ve known loss from suicide more than once and I’ve experienced what it is like to sit in a wheelchair for most of a year. My family has been my constant on all these things and I will can not stand for anything that devalues their worth.
