Help with figuring things out

If I wanted to find a field or career where I work with animals, what steps should I take? Where should I look? I'm in my early thirties but don't have a lot of real-world experience due to mental health issues during my twenties. I know I'm getting a late start but better late than never. Or at least I hope so.

Have any of you had a late start like this? Are there any pitfalls I should avoid or tricks you learned along the way?

For those who have or had both cats and dogs, which one feels more dependent? I've found dogs to be more upfront with their neediness but cats are just as needy but more in a passive way, if that makes sense. I say needy not in a negative sense but it describes the kind of behavior I'm thinking of more accurately.

Here is Bean my little but vicious baby. I think she's standard cat adjacent.

My trio, in order of age: Lucy the Calico, the mom of the group; Bandit the dog, an uninterested teenager; and Bean the long-haired tabby who believes she's the toughest thing on the block.

All three are rescues and make my life complete.
