Is it normal for a teacher to only say pose names in Sanskrit?

Had a weird experience and just want to see what others opinions are. I am based in the UK.

I attended my first class at this studio, having attended classes previously in other locations. I sat at the front to ensure I could hear and see the teacher, only for her to not demonstrate any of the poses / flows, and only say the pose names in Sanskrit. I’ve never ever experienced that before so I tried my best to follow along, despite clearly finding it challenging to have to look behind me at others to try and guess what to do next. The teacher then began sort of saying the poses in English after she’d said them in Sanskrit, but that meant I was always trailing behind everyone.
At one point I could no longer do this so was taking a short break to stretch a little, and the teacher just turned to me, shrugged and said “yeah I guess just do that,” followed by “oh and it’s going to get harder by the way.” I felt so embarrassed I had to leave not even half way through the class. The teacher clearly realised she’d been rude and tried to then say I had been doing well but the damage had been done.

Should I raise a grievance?

I got signed off work for work related stress about a month ago, stemming from a situation where my line manager lied to me about why I wasn’t getting out forward for mid year promotion. They confirmed in writing on my end of 2025 performance review that they would be happy to put me forward for promotion in early 2026 if I continued developing as is.

During my mid year performance review in June, there was no mention from them about the promotion and I had to ask about it at the end. They said they were catching up with someone more senior in the business in a few days time to discuss and would let me know next steps.
They were meant to recommend me for promotion in April / May time but didn’t, which I only found out from someone else more senior in the business.
When I queried this with my line manager he then told me three things:

  1. the business weren’t doing mid year promotions (I since confirmed with HR that this true)
  2. I didn’t arrange any catch ups with him since he confirmed end of last year he would put me forward
  3. my development hadn’t progressed enough

Do I raise a formal grievance? I have spoken with HR informally about the above, but I’m due to return to work next week and want to understand my options.

Successfully pushed back to landlord about notice period

Thanks to the lovely people of Reddit, we successfully pushed back when our landlord tried to say our notice period automatically became 2 months when the RRA came into force.

As we’d agreed a shorter one month period in our contract which was signed before the Act, we managed to cite the clauses and correct them, so we are free to move out as planned!

I felt so vindicated when my landlord said “apologise you are correct, I forgot we had that clause.”

Work asking for backdated sick note?

I left work last Monday 29th due to sickness, told my manager that day I wasn’t able to get a GP appointment til Friday 3rd. On Friday 3rd, my GP gave me a sick note for a further 2 weeks. I sent the sick note to HR and they have emailed me today saying can I ask the GP to backdate the note to cover the period from the 29th-2nd.

Is this normal? I thought I could self certify for 7 calendar days so shouldn’t I be covered? Is there any reason they’d be asking for me to do this?

Thanks

Planning to travel solo for 5 days in September and was thinking of getting a local female guide, does anyone have any recommendations or thoughts if they have done this and think it was worth the money?
