What can I realistically do in Istanbul between 7 AM and 10 AM

I'll be spending one morning in Istanbul for the first time before catching a flight later that afternoon.

I’ll probably start my day very early, and I’m curious: if you had a few hours to show someone the Istanbul you love, what would you include?

A place you enjoy walking around, somewhere you'd take them for breakfast, a view, a ferry, or anything else that feels very Istanbul.

I'd genuinely love to hear different ideas from locals 🙂

There is simply nowhere like Istanbul.

Usually I avoid posting fairy tale threads on reddit because, living in a huge tourist city, I know how insincere it can come across, and that you all must hear the same thing on repeat.

In this case however I have no choice.

Having visited over the last week, and now returned back home in the UK, I want people to know that I'll love this place till my last breath. Even if all those hills in Sultanahmet near enough killed me in the August heat.

I've been to London, Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, several other great cities around Europe but none of them are Istanbul. And none could be. One of the glittering jewels of human civilisation. I'll be back, hopefully when it's snowing!

Girls beware from this guy!

I just got violated on the metro from eminonu to yusupasa. The guy is wearing a red tshirt and black joggers, blue eyes blond hair and tattoos. (+/- 25min ago)

He was standing tooo close.. actually yk what I mean. I moved but he followed, so I stepped away and turned sideways.

A few people got off the metro and it was a little less full but still I saw him stand against another woman even tho there's more than enough space.

When it happened to me I gave him the benefit of the doubt, but when I saw him to it to another woman, I had to step in.

In pulled her back and said at loud in english 'come stand here this guy is standing way too close to you and just did it to me as well'

She was confused as to why I pulled her back because she didn't speak english. He held eyecontact with me for a hot minute both looking angry at eachother before I broke the eye contact.

He got off on the next stop. (The one before yusupasa)

If you are this guy and you are reading this, I hope it gets cut off you pig.

Not throwing shade at istanbull at all btw, this is a beautifull city and I love it here, I'm just trying to protect other girls

For the ones who are gonna say I provoked, I'm a hijab wearing woman who dresses modestly, the second girl was wearing shorts... it doesn't matter to these pigs what you are or what you wear, being a woman is enough to harass or touch you without consent

Edit: It was on the tram. sorry, I'm not used to public transport. Might be why this shocked me so much, I'm sure it happens often sadly

Tourist in Turkey Ran Over a Puppy and Beat It to Death With a Rock — Will Germany Do Anything?

A German tourist in Manavgat, Turkey ran over a puppy with an ATV and then beat the injured animal to death with a rock. The incident was caught on a motorcycle courier’s helmet camera, leading to his arrest.
He was questioned by prosecutors and deported from Turkey.
But so far, there appears to have been no action from Germany. Is this really where it ends?
He brutally killed a helpless animal, was caught on camera, arrested and deported and now there seems to be no consequence waiting for him in Germany.
Is Germany going to do anything about what its citizen did in Turkey, or is everyone just going to pretend this never happened?

Everyone has his/her own Istanbul

Seeing so many people posting about Istanbul, I also want to show my version. The city mixed of so many elements, one of the few cities that you want to visit 2,3,or 4 times...

İçli Köfte at Mahir Lokantası in Istanbul

I had İçli Köfte at Mahir Lokantası in Istanbul, and I absolutely loved it! 😍 It was honestly one of the tasty things I ate there.
I’ve been looking for a recipe to make it for my family back home, but almost every recipe I find is for the fried version, and the one I had at Mahir Lokantası was different was boiled soft and they put chilli oil.
Does anyone have a recipe that’s close to Mahir Lokantası’s İçli Köfte, or know how they prepare theirs? I’d really appreciate it. Thank you! ❤️

⚡️ Why do the trolleys at IST keep electrocuting me? 😭

This has happened on three separate visits now.

Every time I grab one of those metal trolleys at IST, I eventually get a ridiculously strong static zap from it. Not the tiny annoying kind, it actually hurts.

Three different visits, three times the same thing.

Please tell me I’m not the only one 😂

Is there something about the floor + trolley combination there that creates insane static electricity?

Earthquakes in Istanbul - Risk and how to Act?

Hey,

I’m staying in Istanbul for the next 45 days or so and have never been anywhere where earthquakes are reasonably likely, nor have I ever felt one.

I’m aware earthquakes are somewhat common in this part of the world but have recently heard of some great earthquake predicted to hit the city - obviously I’m aware this is incredibly unlikely to hit exactly while I’m here but still.

For one, are those predictions something one should actually be concerned about or is it fearmongering? And secondly, how frequent are smaller, less destructive earthquakes here?

I’m staying in a janky old building in kadiköy (no disrespect I think it’s really sweet but this thing would be the first to fall apart if a strong earthquake hit). If there were to be one in this time, what are you supposed to do if you’re in a building like this? Any tips?

Thanks guys :)

I'm working on this painting :) what do you think? 🫶 I'll share it when it's done!

On the sides, i'm going to paint a pattern inspired by turkish lamps!

Bir gezgin olarak Anadolu Yakası'nda 7/24 açık, gece biraz dinlenebileceğim bir yer arıyorum.

Merhaba. Seyehatlerimi oldukça ekonomik tutmak istediğim için hostelleri araştırıyordum fakat yurt tipi, 8 yataklı odalar sunuyorlar. Puanları da epey yüksek. Bu odalar güvenilir midir?

Uygun fiyatlı hostel önerileriniz var mı?

Bunların dışında geceyi nerede geçirebilirim?

Looking for Turkish baklava that ships to Germany

Hi everyone,

I live in Germany and I’m looking to order baklava from Turkey, mainly as gifts.

I’ve seen Hafiz Mustafa, but the prices are quite high. I also came across Güllüoğlu, especially their dry baklava, which seems much more affordable. I’ve never tried it, though.

For anyone who has ordered from Güllüoğlu: How is the taste and quality of their dry baklava? Is it comparable to Hafiz Mustafa or other well-known Turkish baklava shops?

I’m also interested in how long the baklava stays fresh when unopened. Ideally, I’d like something that can last around a month so I can give it as gifts.

Would love to hear about your experiences. Thanks!
