Oregon stretched from sea to shining sea on Tuesday after winning a “delete a state” tournament on Reddit to take over the entire U.S. map.
In a just-for-fun battle reminiscent of the board game Risk, Redditors upvoted a top comment each day to eliminate states one by one. Two months after the competition began on the “r/geographymemes” subreddit, it all came down to Oregon (dubbed Cascadia) and Minnesota (dubbed Megasota).
Oregon ultimately ousted its Midwest rival by garnering about 8,000 votes compared with Minnesota’s approximately 7,700.
Redditors celebrated heartily and humorously.

“I JUST FELL TO MY KNEES IN A PLAID PANTRY,” Mackin-N-Cheese wrote.
“Sasquatch approves this message,” Headology_Inc wrote.
There were plenty of geography references as well, with various users noting that Oregon now stretched from Portland to Portland, Springfield to Springfield, Warrenton to Warrenton, Albany to Albany, Newport to Newport, Phoenix to Phoenix and Salem to Salem.
Some were already planning Oregon’s next geographical takeover.
“Next up we take British Columbia and the Yucatan Peninsula!” Pearson94 wrote.
Then there was a comment that all Oregonians can truly get behind.
“Commence the introduction of ‘how to pronounce Oregon’ in all U.S. classrooms,” YetiSquish wrote.
