Recently returned to DS1 for a nostalgia run, can anyone recommend a 1 handed weapon for an INT build?

First, I just want to say pure melee and pure ranged characters/builds really turn me off. I've always been a Bloodborne/Warhammer 40k Sword + Gun kind of player.

That being said, the crossbows lack any real "uumph" to the game, so I decided to just use magic as a left hand option. So the "gun" part of the character is covered.

Now the problem is what weapon to use on the right hand.

For now, I'm using the Astora Straight Sword +4 and I know it is a fairly bad weapon; however there's no easy to upgrade weapon early game that offered a good enough damage when no stats were put towards the weapon scaling.

However, now that I've reached mid-game (after ringing the two bells), I can afford to start upgrading a melee weapon.

However, the same problem still persists; my primary stat upgrades are VIT, ATN, and INT.

So what I'm looking for is a fairly light 1 handed weapon that either scales with INT or does very well even without scaling.

Can anyone offer some recommendations?

Just thought I'd share my Resource Camp designs

Usually one of the largest problems with building going back and forth between very good resource sites. These forward resource camps are designed for massive storages, easy to organize, and makes it easy to haul back large amounts of resources.

Ideally you have the Surface Skimmer passive early and the Scout Tadpole later to haul resources back and forth.

One major benefit to these camps is the very low energy consumption to keep them running, even at night. The Full Camp even has the capability of processing materials by using the Bio Reactor as the a power source

These camps are ideal on spots with large amounts of respawning small resource nodes (large nodes that require the Sonic Disruptor do not respawn).

The Half Camp is beginner friendly, as the only thing you need to scan to get started are the wall racks and portable boxes. The only problem with the half camps is that it does not provide its own food and water supply.

Full Camps are designed to be able to recharge the player's supplies during the stop.

Otherwise, these are fairly simple yet optimized designs for Resource camps.

Just note that you can place the Wall Racks as you need them. The examples I show in this video is simply to demonstrate where all the Wall Racks and Portable Boxes can be placed.

I hope these designs help.

Both my monitors go dark whenever I play Farever for maybe 30 minutes to an hour. Anyone know a fix?

It used to only do this inside dungeons, but now it happens in the overworld. Anyone know what's going on?

I can play more graphically demanding games with no issues, but only Farever has this PC restart problem.

On my first rogue, I made the mistake of getting out and rid of the Rusty Daggers ASAP since I thought "Oh, newbie weapon, best grow out of it ASAP."

That was a mistake.

After getting many weapons on my first rogue, getting to level 10+ travelling into level 18 areas, no weapon ever felt "right".

Started a new Rogue and the DPS difference was astounding. When the skills were properly upgraded and the weapon is used correctly, the DPS output on the Rusty Daggers were greater than level 9 weapons thanks entirely to the upgraded skills.

So, again, keep your Rusty Daggers. Until you find another set of higher level daggers, your best DPS are from the weapons you get from the very beginning.

As someone that has now gotten two characters to level 15 and completed two worlds, I'd just like to state the importance of everything at the beginning of the game.

First, I'd just like to state that no matter how many times you restart in a new world, beginner island's points of interests will pretty much remain the exact same (Boar Ruins is always in the NE, Mines is always in the middle, etc).

So, with Beginner Island's static placement in mind, the best location to build a base (and you'd really want one) is directly north of the island, between the two ruins (east has boars, west has dodos), and directly north of the mines.

Next is the tutorial mission's first few objectives. These objectives are the build a Tent, Carpenter Table, and Cooking station. This is a good practice when landing on a new island as the minimum setup you should consider is a Recall Bell, Tent, Carpenter Station, Cooking Pot, and 4~6 Storage bins. This way you can easily return to that spot via boat, temporarily unload your stuff, update your supplies, and keep going. This minimizes the amount of times you need to return to base and allows you time to organize your loot before you return; you don't want to return to your base 3 different times because you have 4 wood the first time, 6 wood the second time, and 1 wood the third time.

After that are the two ruins; the Boar and Dodo ruins. They are important because they'll provide your minimum source of food for the rest of your journey. They offer you Meat, Bird Meat, and Dodo Eggs. These ingredients are enough to craft 15 minute Bacon & Eggs and Dodo Broth. These are important because cooked foods do not drop from you if you happen to die (unlike Coconuts and Bananas which will drop). So with absolute minimum effort, you can have an hour or two worth of food just by visiting these two ruins, which is good enough to last you the entire adventure if you so wish.

Fourth. A good practice to maintain for your main/farming islands is marking locations of Misty Orchids, Sweet Potatoes, Peppers, Clay, and etc with a Standing Torch. After placing the torch, you mark the location on your map. This way they are easy to spot while on the go and easy to locate on your map. This makes supply runs much more resource rich.

Fifth is to place Recall bells near pirate bases in the first Biome, as Gunpowder is a handy resource to have. Pirate bases beyond the first biome do not guarantee Gunpowder drops and are very likely to have other things. The islands where you rescue your crew are prime locations to place recall bells. The Ruin location where you collect Black Insignias is also a prime location to collect Gunpowder.

Sixth is that you won't need any other Copper Mine beyond the first one you get in Beginner Island; every other copper mine has enemies that spawn within and you really don't need all that much copper and stone; only the Beginner Island copper mine is 100% free from enemies. This beginner island Copper Mine is important because you'll eventually return every now and then in order to mine up stone and copper for your bullets.

And finally, some supplies I recommend leaving in your ship's cargo hold:

A stack of Gunpowder, a lamp, a stack of stones, a stack of wood, a stack of plant fiber, fast travel bells, meat, bird meat, eggs, and a shovel.

Also, as an emergency tip: if you run out of comfort and are pretty far away from the shore, just build a bonfire where you are for a few seconds and that should grant you 5 minutes to get back to your ship.

Hopefully these few good practices help.
