Investment operations: where does reconciliation still require manual work?

I’m researching how asset managers, wealth managers and family offices reconcile positions, cash and transactions across banks, brokers, custodians and internal systems.

If you have worked directly with this process:

  1. How does the data arrive?
  2. What creates the most manual work?
  3. Which reconciliation breaks occur repeatedly?
  4. How much time does reporting or month-end consume?

We’re exploring a ledger and reconciliation product with a Finnish family office. I want to understand whether other investment teams experience the same problem.

An anonymized one-line answer is welcome. Please mention your role or type of firm if possible.

How would you validate a specialized B2B problem when users are difficult to reach?

We’re researching how asset managers and wealth managers reconcile positions, cash and transactions across banks, brokers and custodians.

We have one organization helping us understand the workflow, but we need to determine how widely the problem exists.

When target users are difficult to reach, what evidence would you require before building further?

Interviews, sample workflows, pilot commitments, letters of intent or something else?
