Replacement windows

Anyone have recent experience with getting new windows? Previous owners replaced half the windows with the cheapest money can buy so I am not looking for fancy. Just want to do the remaining. I have a quote from Wallside and Pro Home Improvement in Ferndale. Pro is more but seems to have a better window. Anywhere else to check and/or avoid?

thx

Interior painter

Anyone have a rec? I have gotten a few quotes and they are wildly different. I need the entire interior of the house painted including plaster crack patching so it's a big job. Thx!

Converting fireplace to gas

Anyone convert their fireplace to gas? Looking for recommendations. Any feedback on Skyline Chimney and Masonry Services LLC? I saw someone recommend them but now I can't find the post. They gave me a quote that seems too good to be true, incudes gas line + everything else. Thanks!

Best Cell/internet bundle?

I have Spectrum cell service that I set up in NC. Never had a coverage problem anywhere until now, at the house I just bought on W Saratoga. Basically have to stand at the front door to use it. I need to add wifi and was going to go with AT&T fiber and bundle my cell service with them to save $$. Is their cell coverage better?

Gutters

I need gutters/downspouts added to the sides of my 2 car garage. Was quoted $1000. Seems high to me? Anyone know of someone that would be cheaper and do this small job?

roots/grease in sewerline

More joy with house I just bought. Had the sewer line scoped/video as part of my inspection. There are a lot of tree roots to the point where he could not view it all the way with the camera. Also a TON of grease. Sent the video to Bison plumbing and they quoted $1000+ to hydrojet. I am a little worried about that damaging the pipe since inspector could not tell if there were cracks, etc. Since this is Ferndale I did purchase the service line warranty coverage a few weeks ago but can't make a claim for 30 days. I am not living there yet but drains/toilets seem to be working fine at the moment.

  1. Should I wait till my 30 days are up then call the warranty company & tell them I have issues?People say they do this and they will come and clean them out as part of your coverage.

  2. Get it done now and risk pipe damage that warranty won't cover yet?

  3. At least try a remedy for the roots/grease for now?

Attic mold/insulation

I had my new house inspected today. There was some (minor) mold in the attic that the inspector pointed out. He recommended getting it cleaned up then adding some insulation. Any recommendations on a company/person to do this?

Mini split cooling?

Recently purchased a bungalow in Ferndale. The A/C doesn't really work to cool the upstairs. Has anyone installed a mini-split for this purpose? Wondering about the effectiveness/cost. Am I better off with a couple window/portable units? There are 2 bedrooms up but I will sleep in the main floor bedroom.

can my floors be saved?

Just purchased a 1940's home with wood floors that are pretty trashed. Tons of nails everywhere and there is no sub flooring and lots of squeaks. Is this worth refinishing? I am not sure what type of wood it is, maybe pine? Will it look awful with all the filled nail holes? I hate to rip it out if I don't have to!

sellers acting squirrelly

I recently purchased a home, supposed to close next week. Waived the inspection (necessary to get a house here) which I have never done. Paying cash. Gave them free occupancy for 40 days after close. Sellers are being very uncooperative. Gave me a limited walk-thru time (6:30 pm the night before an 8:30 am close). My realtor said he's never heard of an 8:30 am close because of getting the funds there etc.I was going to bring a floor guy with me to the walk thru because the wood floors need refinishing or replacing - seller said absolutely not before close (I was trying to make it convenient for them and do it all in one visit). I just wanted to know can they be refinished or do they need replacing so I can get either scheduled for when they move out since contractors are scheduling a month out. I am getting paranoid that they are hiding something. I recently sold my house and I was very accommodating to the buyers because they also gave me free occupancy. This just seems off. This is my first home purchase alone as a widow and I am freaking out a little.
