Looking for short-term rental in September (Queens/Manhattan/Hoboken)

Hi everyone! My name is Ethan — I’m an 18-year-old student on a gap year looking for a short-term rental/sublet for 1-2 months (with possibility of extending after) starting September in NYC.

I’m hoping to find other responsible young male roommates (preferably in their 20s and also students) who may be open to rooming with me.

A little about me:
💰Budget: $900-$1000 (ideally on the lower end)
🛏️ I don’t need much space — mostly just a** safe, comfortabl**e place & area to stay at night
🙏 I’m neat, responsible, and very respectful of shared spaces and house rules
🎵 I’m an acoustic musician (guitar + voice), so I’d love a place that’s open to light practice, or even better if you’re also a fellow musician!— I’m very mindful about noise and will always follow agreed-upon quiet hours
🍳 I also enjoy cooking and often make fresh home meals

💬 Before committing, I’d like a quick conversation/interview just to make sure we’re a good fit

If you think we might be a good match, feel free to message me. Looking forward to connecting! :)

Airbnb living safety

Hi! I am an 18 year old student looking to travel to nyc for a gap year. My current plan is basically to live out of Airbnb’s around the city until I can find a roommate. I found a shared room for a decent price about $900 around the Jackson Heights-Elmhurst area- (if you look on apple maps it’s literally the area between the two names) but Ive never been to that part before.

Two problems,

  1. I have no idea if the area is really safe despite google claiming it’s ‘generally considered safe, vibrant and residential’
  2. Is it really worth the risk of rooming with a random i don’t know?? although the listing seems very geared towards students and artists. We’d basically be living on pullout couches next to each other w a divider. Im okay with that I just want to be safe

If you guys have any pointers or any safe- but cheap living options for me please lmk!
