Latest scam potential client pays then asks for wire or Zelle refund before payment fails

Alright here is the latest scam and yes we’re reporting it to the FBI.

A potential client “rob tebbutt” (email: Robert_tebbutt@outlook.com) arranged for self-employment and Quickbooks training for expenses and bookkeeping for actors. Apparently he’s the only actor.

He paid $10,000 and then came back and asked us if it cleared to our bank. Once we confirmed, a day later “Rob”reached out, saying that the a couple of the people he represented needed to cancel some but wanted to keep going and asked for a partial refund. Immediately red flag went up because the refund was requested via Zelle or wire.

We told Rob our refund policy and how we had to wait. So of course today CPA charge came back with the failed charge. This guy is timing everything to try to get the refund from us before the charge actually failed. Make sure you have a no refund policy or some type of procedure to wait at least two weeks.

Watch out for scammers!

Mid year update to standard mileage rate!

IRS Announcement 2026-11

This announcement informs taxpayers that the Internal Revenue Service is modifying Notice 2026-10, 2026-4 I.R.B. 378, by revising the optional standard mileage rates for computing the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business, medical, or moving expense purposes and for determining the reimbursed amount of these expenses that is deemed substantiated. This modification results from recent increases in the price of fuel.

The revised standard mileage rates are:

(1) Business 76 cents per mile
(2) Medical and moving 23.5 cents per mile

It was 72.5 cents the first half of the year.

What this means is if you use the standard mileage rate you need to separate your current mileage up to 30 June then have new records for 1 July forward. We recommend apps that track your mileage and then you can separate it into the business, commuting, and personal mileage categories. I personally use mileIQ but there are a lot out there.

We proved that we belong in the playoffs!

We flew back early from our planned vacation for this last game. We missed a few playoff games this year but next year and beyond no vacations between April and June because we’ve shown we belong in the playoffs again.

Thank you Ducks for a great season! Please be proud and rest and recover so we can run it back next season.
