In feeling I mean:

* focus on macro,
* units rarely have activation powers and such
* its just as much about economic and map control as it is about battle engagements

AoE2 is my most beloved game of all time but the community is too conservative and keep complaining about every modern quality of life improvement proposed/ deviation from the extreme basic bonuses of the 90s/2000s

Btw: ISOMORPHIC projection of the map and simple graphics is a huge plus
