World Of Books a Scam?

Looking to buy bulk secondhand books for my reading club, but I’ve finding online that people are having some shady luck with them. I obviously want to avoid Amazon for obvious reasons,

any other reputable and affordable websites out there??

Family of Neighbors are Indoor Chainsmokers [OH]

I will preface by stating I am inquiring for advice or assistance.

For years, (8 to be exact,) I always wondered why it was so smoky our townhome. I never considered my neighbor could have been smoking cigarettes next door, as well as their adult children.

Until one day I was standing on my front doorstep, my neighbor exits their apartment and I SHIT YOU NOT, a cloud of smoke exited with them, and I was hit with the most awful smell of cigarettes. My nose burnt.

I am very sensitive to smoke, and being in the city, we thought it was just the air quality, so we invested in expensive air filters & air purifiers. I still sometimes wake up in the middle of the night not able to catch my breath.

Here’s the caveat, we’ve never spoke with our neighbors before. Ironically enough, the only interaction we’ve ever had was them congratulating us on our new baby.

This really wouldn’t be an issue if they aired out their home, but I’ve never seen a window or door open. I have tried knocking but they don’t answer.

Ask our landlord right? Yeah no, we went without heat or AC for an entire year during a temperature record-breaking winter and summer, we had to threaten lawyers for any change. Our carpet is from the 70’s, yep in the bathrooms too. He makes empty promises because he knows we’re desperate for the cheap rent.

We really cannot afford to move, our rent is the lowest in our region at a whooping $800. (We were grandfathered in.)

I’m at a loss. I don’t think I can make any effect on three people’s lifelong habits. And to make matters worse, someone in their family passed due to lung issues. I’m scared for my baby. A day doesn’t go by where he doesn’t cough or sneeze.

We’re literally looking at intentional communities and a storage unit just to get out.

Edit: the lease is very bare and doesn’t say anything about indoor smoking.

I want to be better. I need to be.

I feel so guilty and I feel like I owe it to my husband and kid, if not at least myself.
I can see the mess and it drives me nuts, but my brain can turn it off and I can find ways to distract myself.
I’m averaging almost five hours a day on my phone. Or I’m watching TV or playing video games.

The guilt reinforces the shame and distraction cycle.

My husband works 50 hours a week and sometimes doesn’t see our kid for days, just so I can stay home. He does all the chores I absolutely despise, (kitty litter, trash, pest control, even runs errands for our family.) He buys me clothes and makeup that I want but don’t need, and brings me home dinner almost every fucking night so I don’t have to cook or do dinner dishes.

I feel like I’m taking advantage of him and feel so guilty I can’t even bring myself to tidy up before he comes home.

Our kid is fed and bathed and happy and he says that’s all he cares about, but I know deep down he craves a clean home, and truly, so do I. :(

This is more of a vent but ofc advice is welcomed

Books like Ready Player One?

It was the last time I had my nose IN the book.

What I loved about the book:

- Suspenseful, page turner. Most of the time he was running, or in hiding from the antagonist, it felt like I was also running with the protagonist!

- there were themes of romance and friendship, I wouldn’t mind even more romance!

- I LOVED the fantasy aspect of the actual gameplay within the “Oasis” video game, * with also reality checks. *

- I LOOOOVEEDDD all the pop culture references! I’m a huge nerd!

Notes: Yes, I read Ready Player Two. And I’m having a hard time getting into ACOTAR but can try again if people suggest

Husband forced to work 50 hours for 40 hr pay

Solved! Thank you. We will be reaching out to the DOL.

.

How is this legal?
On his taxes it say he gets paid for 40 hours, but he gets scheduled weekly for 45 hours.

His employers say it’s because of his bonuses that he has to work 45 hours. (He gets four bonuses a year.) so they’re not even bonuses at this point??

But at times he has to work 50 hours a week, sometimes 55-60.

He gets NO over time since he’s considered full-time.

This all just seems very sketchy. EVERYONE in his position is also treated like this but no one seems to bat an eye.

Edit: he’s salary, food management, in Ohio USA

Need Stop-Motion Recommendations

What are your favorite stop motion recommendations?

HERE’S THE CATCH- it needs to be relatively kid-friendly.
Please, no gore, little to none cuss words, and no sexual interactions.

I’m trying to limit my kid’s films to exclusively stop motion films, mostly because of personal preference, but also bc they tend to be extremely low-stim.

We’ve been having “The Wind in the Willows” (1983) and Shaun The Sheep Movie on REPEAT.

We’re going to wait on Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio just because it has some intense themes, and we like to keep Nightmare Before Christmas saved for the Halloween & Christmas season.

Also posted in r/films!!
