Let me explain, although I'm not sure if this is a hot take per se, but anyway:

While I've seen many people complain about Cooler being no different from Frieza, just a copy, but is that what makes him a good character. Why? Well, because of his development and how he's handled

Cooler is introduced as Frieza's older brother, boasting about being better than him in everything, only to end up behaving just like him. This is interesting because it serves to develop the character. At the end of the movie, when he realizes that Goku is the Saiyan he let go so long ago, making the same mistake as Frieza, he accepts his error and admits he's not better than Frieza, but just equal to him. This is great because he finally accepts that he's not as different and superior to Frieza as he claimed to be

And the movie does a great job showing us this. Even though Cooler says he's different from Frieza, Goku and Piccolo mistake him for him as soon as they see him. Even though Cooler claims to be stronger than Frieza, he ends up being humiliated by the Super Saiyan, just as Frieza was, with Cooler now realizing why Frieza lost. And even though Cooler claims to be more intelligent and competent than Frieza, he ends up making the same mistakes, which ultimately leads him to admit that he's not better than Frieza, but just equal to him. which is very good and interesting

And while it's not the best development or the best narrative, I can say that Cooler is a good character, probably the best in the non-canonical Z movies

But anyway, what do you all think?
