Former Employee
So I'm just going to leave this here for those of you who look at this and are thinking about quitting or thinking about joining GameStop, for those of you quitting I personally do not blame you whatsoever, I worked for the company prior I'd say 3 years back, everything was good for the most part but had to leave due to unfortunate circumstances, well... I got my job back after a few years and was excited to work there again, worked for another year at GameStop and the entire was a pain, don't get me wrong at first it was awesome, great employees and great managers, basically knew how to do everything to coming back which surprised myself lol, but things came to a slow decline, we got a new assistant store manager and she was great, except one of my incompetent co-workers that even I wasnt entirely fond of had a major problem with authority, keep in mind she was also a former employee as well, basically this guy over the span of months would constantly call our manager about her and about the rest of the team just to complain, especially on his days off, he eventually went on to disrespect everyone behind each other's back, of course me as always being the middle man I would relay things he said while also maintaining a acquaintance with him, which they would also relay what he said about me back to me as well, this guy was lazy and the most narcissistic person you could ever meet in your life, he tried to say I was lazy which was hilarious because everyone backed me up, this guy would partially if not at all do it job, he once through an Xbox game into PlayStation and when I saw it I asked him about it and he specifically stated to me "Yeah I don't care", I'm like okay lil bro... keep in mind our manager made write-ups about him and was eventually on a final, here's where it gets really interesting... borderlands 4 just came out, me and a co-worker did the release like normal until he comes in to close, there was deluxe edition for the game which was $100 which could also be printed on a receipt incase they turned off pre-orders for the physical, he not only give one... but two customers their pre-orders (digital) but hands them a physical copy and the receipt as well, meaning the person that bought the physical wasn't able to get their physical copy but also resorted into $200 worth of shrink for the store, should've been fired on the spot but our district manager acted like it wasn't a problem even though it was a major problem that never got fixed, then we kept finding consoles missing which we suspected be this co-worker, unfortunately both the, manager and the assistant manager left before they could investigate and for about two weeks me and one other co worker were left to deal with the incompetent one (keep in mind this guy is 30 something about 40 in age and judging by his attitude towards everything, his job, customers, co-workers, he should not be working at GameStop) anyways after some time, pulling away from him we eventually had another assistant store manager and manager come into the store, when they first came in I was working and these people seemed like the most overcompensating, most by the book people you could ever meet in your entire life, came in with full force (even though I had to help the assistant do a return because he didn't know how to) these people felt like you were suffocating at work, I would be the most flexible, laid back, chilled employee you could ever meet, along with my buddy that got a job back there that I worked with previously and he quit about a week after these new managers came in, GameStop essentially changed a policy where if you buy and new controller, guess what you don't get a new one you instead get a refurbished pre owned that half of the time the warehouse would not fix, I worked around this and found a way to get them a brand new one as you would expect anywhere else you would go to that offers warranty on things, but I couldn't do that with these new managers breathing down my neck at every little thing, not to mention we did calls EVERY single day, which consisted of our district manager basically just complaining about what we should and shouldn't do, what we are doing etc, on top of that we're expected to get pros, get warranties , process distro boxes, put away distro, organize, clean, amongst many other things that I could name that no key holder was getting enough pay for, don't get me wrong, some things I didn't mind all because I just liked talking with customers about the same interest, whether it be video games, movies, collectibles, whatever it may have been, it was an amazing time meeting people with the same cool stuff, so thank you to the customers that are awesome, GameStop however is a big 👎🏻, I also quit about a month ago because the manager decided it would be cool to cut my hours dramatically and when I texted her about it with no response, no heads up, I quit and the store closed down about a week after.
