Is this hybrid AM5 / Amazon US upgrade plan crazy? (i5-12400F -> 7800X3D)
Hey everyone,
I’m currently planning a major core upgrade to get maximum performance in competitive titles (Fortnite, Valorant, FC 26).
Right now, I am experiencing major CPU bottlenecks in heavy 1080p gaming loops. Here is the plan to move away from my current Intel setup while keeping it budget-conscious by carrying over my storage and GPU for now.
My Current Setup:
- CPU: Intel i5-12400F
- Motherboard: ASUS Prime H610M-K D4
- RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200 Mhz
- GPU: RTX 3060 12GB (Keeping for the new pc, upgrading to a 5060 Ti 16GB later)
- Storage: Kingston NV2 1TB NVMe SSD (Carrying over to the new pc)
The New AM5 Core Plan:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
- Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B650M Aorus Elite AX (Picked this heavy-duty board specifically for VRM headroom because I want a clear path to drop in a heavy Ryzen 9 or next-gen X3D chip down the line)
- RAM: G.SKILL Flare X5 Series 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL36-36-36-96 [Model: F5-6000J3636F16GX2-FX5] (Amazon US)
- Case: Montech XR Panoramic Glass
- PSU: 750W 80+ Gold Fully Modular ATX 3.0
Because local component markups where I live are absolutely diabolical (the motherboard alone costs almost double retail here), I’m buying the RAM, Motherboard, and Cooler on Amazon US, and buying the CPU, PSU, and Case locally to keep a walk-in warranty on the heavy stuff.
Total cost for the upgrade parts is coming out to roughly **$**1,200
What do you guys think? Is the 7800X3D worth the platform jump while holding onto the RTX 3060 for a bit, or would you change any of these parts?
