M24 Hairfall Dandruff and thinning Please Help
24M here. My hair fall started around 2020 and it has progressively gotten worse. Most of my hair has also turned grey pretty early. I do have a strong genetic history of male pattern baldness in my family.
Along with the hair fall, I also have noticeable hair thinning, very dry/frizzy hair, and greasy dandruff that comes back within 3–5 days even after washing. I’m currently using Selsun Green shampoo and it has helped somewhat with the dandruff/oiliness, but the overall hair condition and shedding are still bad.
Back in 2022 I went to a dermatologist, but he didn’t do any blood work or tests. He directly prescribed me Finasteride 1mg and Minoxidil 5%. At that time I was really scared to start finasteride because of all the side effect stories online, especially since I already have gynecomastia, so I was worried it could make that worse.
I never ended up starting the treatment back then. Right now I can’t really afford another doctor visit, but my hair loss has gotten noticeably worse and I’m considering finally starting treatment.
I’m thinking of:
- Starting Finasteride 1mg
- Adding Minoxidil 5% after a few months
A few questions for people with experience:
Anyone here with gynecomastia who used finasteride? Did it affect it?
Is it risky to start finasteride without fresh bloodwork?
Should I start both together instead?
In India, can Jan Aushadhi / Pradhan Mantri medical stores give finasteride without a prescription?
Would really appreciate honest experiences/advice, especially from people who were scared of side effects initially.
