Second ever spin!

It's been a minute, but it's me with the silk moths, back to show my progress. I got too excited to use my silk thread to show a picture of the first spin, but it was very uneven anyway. 😅. I really loved how the unevenness of the thread looks in the stitches though. I'm going for a very organic look for this fun experiment, so I'm embracing the imperfections.

I spent more time drafting my silk for the second spin today, so this thread looks more uniform than the last batch.

First Self Designed Composition

Tips/advice for the layout/composition of my mixed media embroidered art piece??

I'm planning on using a mix of felting, embroidery, hand spin silk thread, and silk cocoons. I have lots of experience doing embroidery patterns but have never made my own before. Usually I just free form when I do my own thing, but since this is going to be entered into the state fair, I want a more polished thought-out look.

The first is a picture of the colors and supplies I plan to use. The hoop canvas is a recycled navy blue T-shirt material. The second picture is what I envision in my head but I'm a horrible drawer.

I just need a basic guide for what I'm stitching as I feel comfortable eye balling things for the most part. Do I just transfer basic shapes to my canvas and work from there?
