I tracked every time I picked up my phone for 30 days. Day 8 was the only day something actually changed.

  • Days 1 through 7 were just me white-knuckling it. Putting the phone face down. Leaving it in another room. Feeling that weird pull in my hand even when the phone wasn't there. Nothing stuck. I'd last maybe 40 minutes and then find it in my hand without remembering picking it up. Day 8 was different. I can't fully explain it. The pull was still there but there was like a half-second gap before I acted on it. Small thing. But I noticed it. For the first time I felt like I was deciding instead of just reacting. Still not perfect. But that gap didn't close after day 8. It stayed. Anyone else notice a specific moment where something actually shifted? Curious if it was similar for others or if it's different for everyone.

I picked up my phone 80 times yesterday. My hand moved before I did.

I work from home. I'm 29. Yesterday I decided to count every single time I reached for my phone. Not just unlocking. Every single reach. I stopped counting at 80 before 3pm. Here's what scared me. Most of those times there was no notification. No reason. My hand just moved. Like a reflex. I wasn't sad or bored. I was just existing and my hand went to the phone. I'm not looking for a solution here. I just wanted to say this out loud.

I picked up my phone 80 times yesterday without meaning to.

I work from home. I'm 29. Yesterday I decided to count every time my hand reached for my phone. Not just unlocking it. Every single reach. I stopped counting at 80. That was before 3pm. The worst part is that most of those times there was no notification. No reason. My hand just moved. Like a reflex. Like scratching something that isn't there. I sat on my bathroom floor last week and caught myself doing it again. I wasn't sad or bored. I was just existing and my hand went to the phone. I don't have a solution yet. I just needed to say this out loud.
