Title: PwC AC India remote employee being asked to come to office, but only 4 locations allowed — what happens if I can’t?
I work for PwC AC India and have been a remote employee. Yesterday, an Assurance Partner sent an email to all Assurance employees saying that remote employees are now expected to come to the office twice a week.
I actually don’t have an issue with going to the office. My problem is the locations I’m being asked to choose from.
I have been told that, as a remote employee, I can only report to Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad or Gurugram. Mumbai is apparently not an option.
The problem is that my husband is moving to Mumbai for his job, and I was planning to relocate there as well. I specifically checked with HR about working from the PwC AC Mumbai office, and I was told that doing so would make me “non-compliant”, even though I would physically be working from a PwC office.
Now we’ve been told that the attendance consequences are roughly:
75%+ attendance → no issue
Below 75% → bonus gets impacted/cut
So my question is: what can PwC actually do if I don’t meet the attendance requirement because I am living in Mumbai and cannot realistically travel to Kolkata/Bangalore/Hyderabad/Gurugram twice a week?
My work is completely unaffected by where I physically sit. I work remotely with no client-facing requirement that depends on my physical location, and productivity/output would remain the same.
I’m not trying to avoid working from office. I’m willing to go to the Mumbai PwC office twice a week, but HR says that would still be non-compliant because Mumbai isn’t one of the four permitted locations.
Has anyone at PwC AC India dealt with something similar? What happens in practice if someone consistently falls below the attendance threshold? Is it only a bonus impact, or can it eventually lead to disciplinary action/performance issues?
Would especially appreciate answers from people currently in PwC AC Assurance rather than general WFO experiences.
For context, I’ve seen other PwC employees discussing 8 days/month and attendance-linked bonus consequences, but I’m trying to understand what happens when the issue isn’t unwillingness to attend office, but the company not allowing attendance from the city where you’re actually living.
