How Robert Smith's gothic look was a rip-off of Siouxsie's created between 1979 and 1981

The Siouxsie 1980 "Israel single" promotional look cemented the gothic look as we know it today.

In May 1982 Robert Smith let his hair grow long like Siouxsie's (for the Juju tour) at the end of the Pornography tour before cutting them short again for the Let's Go to Bed video. It is only in 1984 that Robert Smith fully embraced the Siouxsie 1980-1981 look with the same haircut and the same Siouxsie blood red lips stick. His look became complete in 1985 when he put like two heavy black make-up entierely on his eyelids and teansformed himself as a kind of a masculine Siouxsie version.

Siouxsie was already backcombing her hair in 1979 with dark heavy make-up. https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/photo-d%27actualit%C3%A9/siouxsie-sioux-singer-with-british-punk-band-photo-dactualit%C3%A9/123276256

Nick Cave had short hair in April 1991 when the Birthday Party shot their first video for Nick The Stripper. He went goth after. https://youtu.be/3WO7_Zn_iKU?is=x1lFERG44tVI9yuW

Daniel Ash didn't have cripsed hair in 1981: he had still a rockabilly type of haircut in 1981.

The gothic look was cemented by Siouxsie as excellent music historian John Robb recalled it in his brilliant book Goth. The Siouxsie Juju 1981 look obviously impacted Robert Smith.

The Getty Images website shows that Siouxsie was the first singer to have heavy make up and black leather in 1977 with this picture taken by Kevin Cummins. https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/uutiskuva/siouxsie-sioux-performs-on-stage-with-siouxsie-and-the-uutiskuva/95849760?slot=1

Nina Hagen emulated that look later. Hagen had short hair on the sleeve of her debut album in Nov. 1978. It is only in 1980 that she changed her make up to copy the black cat eye make up created a few years before by Siouxsie. One can watch her transformation with Youtube.

But as soon as in 1977, Siouxsie appeared with her cat eye black make up in NME, Melody Maker. In November 1977, Sounds magazine put Siouxsie on the front cover with the caption "The Ice Queen". The gothic look was already present with the Siouxsie picture inside the gatefold sleeve of the 1979 Join Hands album.

Is Robert Smith's gothic look of 1984-1985 a masculine version of Siouxsie's from late1980 early 1981 ?

Fact checking. Chronologically , Simon Gallup was actually the first Cure member in late 1981-1982 to copy or emulate the Siouxsie 1980 "Israel single" promotional look when Simon dressed in black leather with black leather knee shoes and spiky hair and a bit of black koln make up down his eyelids. Robert Smith let his hair grow long like Siouxsie's during the end of the Pornography tour in May 1982. Robert cut them short for the Let's Go 2 Bed video. It is only in 1984 that Robert embraced the Siouxsie 1980-1981 look with haircut and the same Siouxsie blood red lipsstick. His look became complete in 1985 when he put heavy black make-up entierely on his eyelids and appeared as a masculine Siouxsie version.
