The Drunk Taylor & Patient Zero…👀

the patient zero mv is making me think about that whole 2019 period, especially the parallels with taylor’s infamous “drunk taylor” moment & the Jimmy Fallon interview.

what makes it even more interesting is the joe connection. taylor was very conscious of how she behaved publicly during that relationship, & there was this idea that joe preferred keeping things private & away from the public “noise.”

so i’m wondering if patient zero could be drawing from that dynamic. taylor being herself, being watched/judged for it, & feeling like she had to restrain parts of herself. obviously just a theory, but the parallels…?

taylor swift can’t win & neither can we.

ttpd & showgirl are almost complete opposites, yet both got hit with the same “taylor has lost her touch” narrative. ttpd was mocked for being too long, too dramatic & too wordy, while showgirl is being criticized for being too poppy, unserious & lacking the “depth” people expect from her. maybe the problem is that people have decided there’s only one version of taylor that counts as talented.
i genuinely think if lover, 1989 or reputation had come after ttpd, people would’ve hated them too. once you start measuring every album against someone’s favourite version of an artist, you stop actually listening to the album in front of you. & the constant need to credit a muse or a man whenever a woman produces something brilliant, while using her weaker work as proof of what she’s “really capable of,” is rooted in a pretty obvious double standard. let artists create. let them experiment, be ridiculous, make something you hate, make something you love. you don’t have to listen to it, & you don’t have to love everything they make. being universally liked is a clown’s job, not an artist’s.

what taylor swift opinion became harder for you to hold after actually listening to the music instead of absorbing fandom consensus?

i feel like there are so many opinions in this fandom that get repeated so often that they eventually become treated like objective facts. “this album is overrated,” “this song is filler,” “she can’t write like she used to,” “this era was her peak,” “this album is objectively better than that one” etc. & sometimes i wonder how many of us actually came to those conclusions ourselves versus hearing them 500 times & slowly accepting them as our own opinion.
for me, one of the most interesting things about taylor’s discography is how differently songs hit when you stop thinking about where the fandom has collectively placed them & just listen to them on their own. sometimes a song i originally dismissed becomes one of my favorites, sometimes a fan favorite does absolutely nothing for me, & sometimes i realize i only disliked something because i expected it to be something else.
so what’s the taylor opinion you genuinely changed your mind about? not because someone convinced you in a comment section, but because you actually went back, listened again & thought “wait… why do i actually kind of get it now?” 😭
